Hi, I come from S*fari and I am currently freeing myself from the walled garden of Appl*. I am happy to see that devlopers are working on tab groups in Firefox. With S*fari, I used to have tag groups for ongoing subjects, e.g. projects (which last longer) or research for the purchase of some item (which typically lasts only for a couple of days or even just hours). So, at any point in time, I have about a dozen tab groups between which I often switch hence and forth. I know that tab groups are currently being developed on in Firefox and that they are in a state of work in progress. In the current implementation, the tab group "heads" (the buttons that contain the group's name and that are used to collapse and expand the tab group) use up quite some space in the tab bar. My Idea now is: The tab groups can be accessed and toggled in a list in a new "Tab Groups" section in the sidebar. An option ("tab group mode" perhaps?) controls, where the tabs of groups can be expanded (that is, made visible) and collapsed: "Inline" uses the current implementation with the tab group "heads" in the tab bar. "Sidebar" would allow the user to select the tab group to expand (in the current window after the current group or tab not part of a group) and collapse in the sidebar's new "Tab Groups" section. "Inline and Sidebar" would use both, the sidebar method and that with the heads, "No Tab Groups" turns off tab groups. When the "Sidebar" mode is active, the tab group head is not visible in the tab bar but the coloured line at the bottom of the tabs of a group is. When "Inline and Sidebar" or "Inline" is active, then the behaviour/display in the tab bar is like the current implementation. This way one would have a way to remove the UI that uses up space in the tab bar. (This also would allow a behaviour, where all of the tabs in a window are replaced with the selected tab group which would distract you less with tabs of a different subject.) (I am sorry if my language is a mess, English is not my native language.) (Edit 1: Fixed tag.)
