First off, I absolutely love the Relay service. I've gone all in on using Relay for pretty much every new signup to keep my main inbox clean and private. As I've used it more, I had an idea that I think would greatly increase it’s value for money (considering it’s a subscription based service) and flexibility. Right now, Relay protects my one main email address perfectly. But like a lot of people, I have a few different inboxes I use for different parts of my life. One for personal stuff, one for my freelance work, another for a coding project I contribute to. It would be amazing if I could protect all of them with my single Relay account.
Here’s the basic idea:
What if we could add and verify a few different destination emails in our Relay settings? Maybe you could just assign a number to each one, like:
my-personal@email.com (is #0)
my-work@email.com (is #1)
my-project@email.com (is #2)
Then, when I need a new mask for a work related site, I could tell Relay to generate one and just type +1 at the end of the random prefix. So it might look like:
random-prefix+1@mozmail.com
When Relay sees an email come in with that +1, it would know to forward it to my work email instead of my personal one.
This would be a game changer for people like me who try to keep things compartmentalised. I could have truly separate, anonymous inboxes for every part of my life, all managed under one simple Relay subscription. For privacy focused professionals or developers, this would be a hugely valued and appreciated feature. It moves us into true inbox separation, which is super convenient. It seems like a natural next step for Relay, building on the core idea of privacy while giving power users more organisation and control.
Just an idea from a very happy user. Thanks for listening and for building such a great tool.
All the best.
