Disable VPN when New Message is clicked

Hi,

I use a Microsoft Surface, with Windows 11, and AVAST VPN. I cannot send email messages from Thunderbird with the VPN active. I have to turn-off my VPN in order to send an email composed in Thunderbird.

Is there any way to have the VPN turned-off automatically when I click on the "New Message" button within Thunderbird? If not, can that be an added functionality choice?

The error message I get is "Login to account "securemail.aplus.net" failed, 
Login to server securemail.aplus.net with username ... failed"

When I disable my VPN, it sends with no problem.
