This idea is for Thunderbird. I would like a button or hotkey that deletes email with force. That is, hitting this button or using this hotkey not only deletes the email, but blocks that sender. Or, blocks that entire server.
And, when I say "blocks" I mean that I would never see another email from them again. Those future emails from that sender or server would only go to trash or be instantly deleted. None of the "potential spam" stuff. Gone forever.
Of course, this function would create a database of blocked emails and servers, and that database could be edited.
Thank you.

It seems to me that at one time Thunderbird had options to reply with or without quoting. Or at least some other clients I have used have that option. I know there is a setting for this, but I find that I want to use one option about as often as the other. It would be really nice if there were two buttons (and two menu options) so the option could be on a per-message basis.

When being in the folder of incoming mails, I can jump with the key above from unread to unread message/mail. But the folder Junk/Spam and/or Trash is ignored. But there are unread mails too.
Sometimes I found important mails there.
Is there a possibility to change that behavior?
If not, it would be fine to create a function.
Yours sincerely Werner

Hi,
in a caldav system any event has a unique id. If a user has a lot of "sub"-calendars in his list, but only watching some of the subcalendars, an event accepted by another device with the same user but different set of viewed subcalendars, leads to a situation where the (here) first device can accept the event a seconded time. As this is natural behaviour for a caldav system due to the uniqueness of the ID, a "Private Copy" function OR EVEN BETTER, "Copy to .... Calendar[cars,booking,hotels,company....]" is required to make effective Groupsharing of Calendars working. This contextmenu entry should be in the "This mail contains an already accpected event" message, same as in the contextmenu for any event in the calendar tab.

Dear Ideas space, thank you firstly for providing this opportunity to share my (old, untold) idea, which I like to present in this manner, to actually explain better, which is what I do best. (No judgements, I'm bad at delivery, I get that all the time. I may be understanding my own emails.) Concisely, and somewhat correct;
I'm interested to know 'why you're (all) choosing for HTML'. (Worded a bit like a magician.) That will become apparent. (Because I have an alternative, you're looking at it.)
Also, an email with 5+ MB attachments can go separate ways; mail and upload to the [password access, user specific, per user/group] place of your choice (which it is all about; standard off, like internet addresses standard off for Firefox, separate idea, "just" security patches, but you get the drift), large attachments to a separate address (such as the local machine of the recipient itself, not in the inbox file but a local map). It also 'modifies the email I sent earlier', though you don't have to know that.
(Bare in mind please, these do look like separate ideas probably maybe deserving separate threads, I must not forget to mention, but it will become apparent when these all are part of one idea, actually 'better than HTML emails'. Though it's not an HTML vs plain text discussion, I'm just bad at show and tell.)
Makes the user specific receipt requests (not for everybody) also I bit easier.
# RespectMyPref (not a product, just space to improve)
Thank you for your indulgence and your patience. I think I've not, and I shouldn't, disrespected the rules for this platform which is connect.mozilla.org. Thank you for all goodies. Thank you and thanks again. This is all about technology and giving back.

With Extras --> Export you can export all your Thunderbird settings (accounts, addressbooks, mails) to a .zip file to backup it or to move it to another computer. The problem is: if your profile folder is greater than 2GB it is not recommended to do it this way. There is no way to only export all your account settings and passwords, but not all local stored mails. It would be great, if the user could choose via some checkboxes which data he wants to export, so you can deselect "mails" and only export account settings etc.

Hello !
It would be handy if we could schedule the deletion of certain mails easily.
For example, having a "recycle bin" where we could drop mails, but in reality it would only be a shortcut to that mail that would be created there, the original mail would still be in its folder. And we could configure parameters, so that for example, any mail dropped in this recycle bin would be deleted after a week, a month... etc
For example, for trains, we receive a lot of mails when the train is about to leave, and I prefer to keep them until the end of the journey in case of problems. But I have to think about deleting them manually on a regular basis to avoid being drowned in these now useless mails....
Thanks for reading, and good luck!
Best regards !
Charly

Hi. I love my Thunderbird email desktop client but at the same time I find it clunky and difficult at times. The calendar in particular could do with improvement. Please consider adding value to the way appointments and dates are presented in calendar. I would like to see the ability to colour the whole cell (specific day) when a task is entered, as opposed to just a tiny little coloured line at the side of a specific entry. For big occasions I want that date to stand out. The whole calendar needs to the ability to add more colour. Even the way the current day is "highlighted" is inadequate in my opinion. It just doesn't stand out. Also the way of setting a date range is cumbersome. Clicking and dragging the range with a mouse and extending the date range dynamically would be much easier than the current method. I'm hoping you can consider these changes. Cheers.

Hi,
currently, in a day box display in Thunderbird Calendar mostly only a day number is displayed. It would help a lot, if the full date were displayed for each day (day, month year). There is enough space in each box to place it in.
Each time I display the Calendar I have to verify, if the correct weeks are displayed. It always takes some effort to do that. This problem is sharpened by the fact that, when using a touchpad or a mouse wheel, minimal interaction can offset the calendar by months or even years. Thus easy orientation regarding correct setting is crucial.
thank you in advance for considering this suggestion

Grazie.

Hi, it would be very useful, at least for me, to have the possibility to choose which accounts should appear in the Unified Inbox. This would allow me, having the Unified Mail as the main view when starting up, to have under control only the accounts I want, avoiding distractions and the confusion caused by messages coming from accounts that perhaps are only used for less important things. The excluded accounts would still be present in the Inbox list and I would only select them if I wanted to. Basically it would be enough to add a new collector at the top where there are only the desired Unified accounts. This idea came to me using an Android app called Spark Mail which I consider the best ever for emails. Thank you.

Messages have an options button to "show remote content in this message."
Suggestion: implement a way to automatically show remote content for selected sources.

In Thunderbird, we can right click to empty the trash and even the junk folder, but the sent mail folder has no such option and we have to delete all sent mails one by one (or highlight the ones on the current page and delete in small clusters).
Could a feature be added to the sent mail folder, which collects way more mail than the junk folder, be fitted with an "empty" all at once command?
Also, I'll add a piddly request while I'm here - could we have a bigger emoji selection? The ones Thunderbird currently has have all been there for ages. The emojis could use an update! Thanks 🙂

I have two folders that I regularly move messages into: Accounts and Transactions. When I select a new item (in Inbox) to move, the context (right-click) menu offers as an option the last command I executed, which is almost always "Move to Accounts Again" or "Move to Transactions" again. The trouble is that half the time it's the wrong one and I have to drill down through the Recent or Favorites options to select the target folder I want. How about adding the last two commands to the top level of the context menu?

On OSX, it is possible to see a preview of the documents in the finder. It has been implemented in the Postbox version of Thunderbird. That would definitely be a plus on the mac.

Hello and good day to all the hard working people at Mozilla!
I work as an ICT-instructor for the visually impaired and I have many clients who use Thunderbird as their main email program. Thunderbird has been a blessing for both me and my clients for many years in that no matter what email provider you use you only have to learn one interface to efficiently handle your daily email needs.
This announcement of a new and refreshed user interface filled me with a growing dread. As stated above all of my clientele are visually impaired either with low vision or complete blindness. In addition most of them are already ”graying” so to speak, upwards of 70 years of age.
I have no doubt that accessibility will be top-notch on the new UI - as is the case now - but I fear that re-learning the new ins and outs of an already established program will cause a burdening mental strain not only on my clients but also on me.
So my humble plea is this; please give us the option to keep using the tried and tested UI. Experience has taught me that modernizations of user interfaces have almost invariably been only drawbacks where visually impaired users are concerned.
In closing, I would like to offer my sincerest adulations to the whole Thunderbird team for creating and maintaining a tool that has enabled those with vision issues to take part in the information highway. Let us hope that this will be the case for many years still to come!
Kind regards, a concerned-yet-hopeful instructor.

A long time ago, Thunderbird could export all your Message Filters along with all your e-mails. It was great because you could copy all your information to another computer as quickly as a few seconds (minutes if you had many e-mails accounts and/or thousands of messages). Then, Mozilla came up with a migration scheme that would allow you to access your profile on another machine and import everything from the profile on your previous machine to a new install of Thunderbird on a new machine. In a very short time, you could have a complete clone of your Thunderbird profile on a new machine. These things need to come back. Exporting e-mails and folders, then importing into a new install, then having to re-create dozens or even hundreds of Message Filters is unnecessarily tedious, given how flexible Thunderbird used to be.

Thunderbird should have the ability to disable ALL telemetry and other unknown connections, in fact this should be the default. The only place Thunderbird should be connecting to is the email provider's POP and SMTP servers, and/or IMAP servers. If it wants to connect to anything else there should be a way to get a full explanation of where it is going, why it is going there, and we should have the ability to block that connection if it is doing things we don't want it to do. Some of us do NOT want it trying to sync anything to any online cloud service! A connection that ONLY checks for updates to Thunderbird and does nothing else that would be fine too, but as it is Thunderbird just wants to connect to various thunderbird.net, mozilla.com, and firefox.com addresses with no explanation of why or what it's doing. Thunderbird needs to be much more transparent about what it's connecting to, and give users the opportunity to opt out without having to use external connection blockers such as OpenSnitch (Linux) or Little Snitch (MacOS). The "just trust us" mentality that many developers have just doesn't cut it in these times, particularly for anyone who values privacy.
