Using the Unified Folders mode exclusively in Thunderbird, when one right-clicks on the Trash folder, and then clicks Empty Trash, it would appear that nothing happens. Actually, the folder is emptied, but one must click away from Trash, and then back to it, to see that the contents have indeed been deleted. But even then, the indicator to the right of Trash (that shows the number of unread messages) does not clear. It's necessary to open the Trash 'tree' and simply click on the various accounts to reset the counter to zero. This emptying bug is not an issue with the Unified Junk folder, which does empty immediately. When I began using Thunderbird a number of years ago, there were other bugs that subsequently have been fixed. But this one remains, despite being acknowledged as a bug at least a couple of years ago.
