Occasionally I will get distracted between starting Thunderbird and entering the primary/master password. This is usually due to not having my password manager open, and/or problems with the PW manager, or getting an important phone call.
Thunderbird asks for the PW, but if I don't enter it "in time" it will go ahead and try to access my email accounts online, but without having access to the application passwords/tokens. This causes a slew of errors, requests for authorizations and other problems. I usually end up canceling the task by way of the operating system - because just closing Thunderbird doesn't stop the insanity.
If I have a primary/master PW, Thunderbird should WAIT, and not try to do anything, until that password is correctly entered. That would solve a bunch of issues.

Right now, multi day calendar entries show up per day. This results in the context of a full calendar with many events, in a cluttered view since multi day events are hopping up and down from day to day with repetitive text. If the calendar events would be connected and the text would be shown just once per line, it would be much cleaner. I know it from other web implementations (for example vuetify calendar component) I think both strategies have ups and downs, but in my opinion, my suggestion would make the monthly calendar much more readable.

#Thunderbird. In the main message list, if I mouse over and stop at an entry in the subject column I get the full text of the subject presented as a tool-tip. This is helpful when the subject column is short and shows only the beginning of the subject. It would be very helpful to have similar expanded info for the correspondents column displayed in a tool-tip when I mouse over it. The expanded info should include the full email address of the sender, not just the "nice" name which is too easy to fake. This would very much aid in the recognition of spam (or unwanted) message and allow them to be disposed of without needing to open more of the message.

I'm using tasks (ToDo's) quite a lot for different purposes and reminders. To have a better view, I use categories (with colours) for different task areas.
Some examples for categories: personal, shopping, holiday, authorities, finance, healthiness, contracts and so on...
Has Thunderbird Tasks the possibility to group tasks by category?
As result, the view of all of the task's could look like this: a) grouped by category b) sorted by priority(first) c) sorted by date (second) {this could be beginning or finishing date}
Category "Holiday" - Task 1 - Task 2
Category "Personal" - Task 4 - Task 5
The "Grouping by" view helps to navigate more comfortable in large lists. As additional feature it would be helpful to collapse or expand a category and the tasks beneath.
Annotation: I moved from Windows/Outlook to Linux/Thunderbird: I found the usability from Outlook very helpful to manage data (emails, tasks, contacts, personalized views).

This list can grow exponentially, and there is no easy way to transfer it over to a new profile/installation. Yes, there are cryptic, manual ways to do it but it has been years since I've felt this is a much needed improvement. Thank you!

Currently Thunderbird supports system tray on Windows - just close the software and an icon will be presented on Windows system tray.
Unfortunately this feature is missing on Linux. In past there were several plugins to do that, like several versions of Minimize-to-tray, however the plugin technology for Thunderbird (and Firefox) has changed over time, and these plugins are no longer supported.
Currently if I want to use this feature on Linux I need install an additional software like systray-x or KDocker, which it is weird.
So, please turn this feature native for Linux too!

Hi, I am on Thunderbird 133.0b4 (Beta). I recently discovered that I can customize the Thunderbird Welcome screen, and set it to any webpage. In my case I set it to my project management page in Nextcloud. This is super-useful because email and project management are closely tied. I would just like now to be able to switch to the Welcome screen easily. On this page: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-disable-or-change-thunderbird-start-page It says it should be accessible in the menu, but perhaps this was removed. Could it be a button? Update: Alt-Home shortcut brings up the Browser Start URL

Currently, there is only a general thunderbird setting to control notifications.
Users with multiple accounts might not need to receive notifications on all accounts, and being unable to distinguish between important and unimportant messages, especially in the case of the badge icon counter
Please add the ability to toggle notifications (system notifications/badge icon counter) per account instead of globally.

Thunderbird can act not only as a mail client, but also calendar, address book, tasks app and more, which gives new productivity opportunities – for example, you can very easily convert an e-mail into a task or event. One of the things Thunderbird currently lacks, however, is support for sub-tasks/hierarchical to-do. Let me show you this amazing feature on an example (using Nextcloud Tasks): On Bugzilla, this feature was requested 21 years ago: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=194863 There are no good desktop apps supporting caldav and sub-tasks that I'm aware of, and the only such app for Android is Tasks.org. In addition, it seems Thunderbird already supports necessary attribute: https://github.com/Betterbird/thunderbird-patches/issues/79#issuecomment-1465267112

Having customizable colors for new received messages in Mozilla ThunderBird would be a huge plus for users.
It would allow users to easily identify new messages at a glance, making it easier to manage their inbox and stay organized.
This feature would be especially helpful for users who receive a large volume of emails or who need to quickly identify important messages.
Additionally, it would allow users to personalize their inbox experience and make it more visually appealing.
the green little dot is not enough in my humble opinion, also, if we could have the opportunity to ad a color line around the square of the message, that would be perfect, so when we have new message, we would have a colored border on the message AND also the little dot (but we would can choose the color of both of them 🙂
(You could also add the option to switch between this form of colored new message, or the old, so people that want sobriety would have the possibility to choose too)
thanks in advance,
regards
YR

Right now only all unsent messages can be sent as specified here: https://superuser.com/questions/1329174/how-to-send-a-message-in-thunderbird-that-is-in-your-outbox and here https://kb.mozillazine.org/Outbox#Sending_mail_in_the_Outbox
You cannot select which messages in the Outbox will be sent. You can only send them all. If you want to send some messages in the Outbox but not others, you could move the others to another folder temporarily.
It would be great if we could right click on an email, or a list of selected emails, in the outbox and have an option to "Send Selected Messages".
I just want to note that even the workaround doesn't work very well because after moving messages to a new folder, they cannot be moved back to the Outbox folder by selecting them and doing "Move To", rather, they have to be opened, one by one, and then click send, and this creates a copy to the outbox which then means that then the message in the folder it was moved to has to also be deleted manually.

Hey
Please give us a option disable opening pdf in mozilla thunderbird directly or option to choose which program will open them.
Implemented reader is slow. There is often problem with opening pdf files - last very long to open files and if there is more pages program open them very slow - way slower than standard program. Your implemented reader need some time to be improved. For now its just pain to use, especialy if i have a lot of work and need to work quickly.
Thanks

Hi,
Default behavior is that when writing an email, each time you press enter it creates an empty line.
1°The option is not so easy to find and that it why you see so many online posts providing a solution to this. This might annoy new thunderbird users, especially old people who just want to write as they usually do anywhere else.
Libre office, gmail, outlook, don't default their editor adding automatically a new line while pressing enter so why Thunderbird?
