If I want to search broadly for a term on some text in a page or pdf (and maybe it's spelt differently), I wouldn't get a match. Vector search would show results from a search for 'plant' to include 'flower' or 'vegetation'. Or if I want to search for some type of 'animal' but don't know which animals are included, a vector search would return the animals that are semantically related in terms of their dictionary definition. Vector search would make searching for text extremely useful. Currently, no browser has such functionality implemented. Firefox could be ahead of the pack with this. Of course, this would be an alternative to the existing search functionality. A browser like Firefox needs to be more useful than conventional browsers and this would contribute to that. This would make machine learning "AI" functionally useful to a user (considerably more than just LLM integration), since searching for text in a browser is a very common activity. ... View more

I think the URL-autocompletion in firefox works great, except for one problem: On many websites I like that firefox learns the full url and autocompletes it. But on some websites, firefox learned the wrong url-parameters or url-parameters don't make much sense on this site. In this cases I would like beeing able to disable full-url autocompletion for specific websites, so only the host and protocol part of the URL is autocompleted for this websites. The latest version 128.0 (64-bit) no longer allows a return key click in the search bar to open the default search engine page. This was a very efficient tool that I used dozens of times per day. The removal of this tool has made the search bar function cumbersome. ... View more

Previously when I opened the dropdown menu in the firefox search box I was able to click an icon for one of the sites I had saved there (e.g. wikipedia) and go directly to that site. Now this functionality has been removed for some reason. Clicking the icons has no effect without characters (e.g. a space) in the box. While linking to these pages is not explicitly the purpose of the dropdown, it was a simple way to get to things I had already saved in one part of firefox without having to also bookmark them or make extra keystrokes. With the DMA in the EU Google added a new search engine choice screen, but when a user chooses a different option than Google, it automatically installs their web browser and sets it as the only way to search with that service, driving users away from Firefox. The solution would be to add Firefox as an option to that list along with the other browsers (such as duckduckgo or ecosia browser) so that the user can decide to use for example duckduckgo through Firefox instead of their browser. Please add an independent search bar just for searching tabs at the top of vertical tabs as in the add-on, Tab Center Redux. It's so fast and efficient! As you type, it instantly filters your tabs to show only those that match your search text and hides those that do not.   Before anyone says it, yes–I am aware that you can type "%" in the search bar to search tabs you have open. But this bar is faster for quickly filtering tabs you have open in your current group–especially when you have a gazillion tabs open and need to find one without scrolling for ten minutes or stop audio in a tab you can't find. ... For example, if I search "Mushrooms" in DuckDuckGo and then switch the search engine to Google in the Awesomebar, it should be prefilled with "Mushrooms", so I can quickly do the same search in Google. That said the current search query should be fully selected so that when users don't want to do the same search in a different search engine, they can just start typing and the query would get replaced with what they type. ...
