I wonder how Page Translator is missing on Firefox Android. Please Introduce a Page Translator.

@nnaaaaaaaaaaa Support for Japanese, Korean, and Chinese translations (plus others) is planned for the second half of this year - so starting soon.

Add translate web page options

Dear Firefox Development Team,

As a long-time Firefox user, I appreciate its performance, privacy features, and user-friendly interface. However, I suggest adding a web page translation feature to the mobile app. This addition would:

1. Enhance Accessibility: Allow users to understand content from around the world.
2. Improve Convenience: Enable translation without relying on third-party apps.
3. Increase Competitiveness: Match features offered by other leading browsers.
4. Support Learning: Aid users learning new languages by translating content on the fly.

This feature would be a valuable addition, greatly benefiting the global user base. Thank you for considering this suggestion.

@Jon I have Firefox 128 installed on my phone, but it is not apparent to me how I use the translation feature. Could you please elaborate how to use it?

same here. I've been waiting for this feature for over half a year now. it's crutial for me as I live in a foreign country where many of the websites are in the local language I don't speak. I had to install Opera on my phone because FF is utterly useless in this regard.

also, I'm worried about the reliability of this feature anyway because I've tried FF translation on desktop and to be honest, it is crap. I had used some google translator FF extension for this purpose before. I uninstalled it, to give the new built-in feature a chance. it breaks the page's CSS, elements start appearing double right next or above each other, and the translation itself is far inferior to that of the Google Translate community extension, to the extent it either totally changes the meaning of the sentence or it's just unclear what the line means. after couple days I had to disable the FF built-in page translator and revert to the good old community extension...

@Jonhow can Firefox win the browsers race if Mozilla is constantly behind? maybe Mozilla is excelling in privacy and its terms and conditions are for the favour of the users, unlike Chrome or any other commercial browser out there, but the vast majority of users aren't concerned with that and simply want an up-to-date feature rich web browser!

@JonI have been using this feature on FF nightly. it's working. I'm experience issues, not sure if it's only eng-dutch or ither languages. but it often breaks the page layout. and many times, it shows 2 words where originally there's just one, adding and to it (so if a button says 'fiets', which means bike in Dutch, it translates it to English and writes 'bike and bike', making the button so much larger in size and breaks the site's layout. also, it translated some local currency on an order page, from '375 Kc' Czech crowns, which is equal to like €12, to English writing '£375' , which is quite a difference 🤣

also, when you press 'show original' after you've a page is already translated, it reloads the entire page! throwing you all the way back up and scraping all the data I may have filled in a form.

sure it's a beta I get it. I personally wouldn't mind if the translation data on a website I visit would get translated up on some cloud, if it meant that the translation quality would be superior.

@yoti  we are working to improve the two issues you mentioned regarding short sentence translation and units of measure. Do you see other issues breaking layout?

The "show original" issue we are not planning to work on yet, but we are aware of it and we will try to prioritize it sooner or later.

@marcoI think you should find a quick solution for the show original problem, even if not a temporary fix. because it's very problematic and unreliable. I find that I have to alternate between the translated and original versions all the time because the translated version is more often than not incorrect or altogether unclear. sometimes it's just easier to view the website in the original language and use Google translate to translate just one sentence. because viewing the whole website in FF translated shows some sentence I cannot comprehend. it's a bit of a loop hole because my choices are, use the whole fully translated site while much of it is unclear (and visually broken) or view the site in the original language and use the external tools of my phone to translate particular bits correctly. or use Google Chrome altogether but that's not an option unfortunately...

if the translation was perfect, I wouldn't have to go back to the original so often, but it isn't. it creates text that I am unable to decipher and I'm not sure what's worse, trying to understand a website in a language you don't speak or trying to understand a website in gibberish. so I must be able to view the original just so I could make sense of the parts that don't make sense. and so it happens most often that it shows labels or instructions which I cannot understand while filling a form or reading a long description of something. in either case, I'm being thrown back to the top of the page and all the data I've filled is gone. so I'm not sure how to go about it or use this feature atm

@yoti  could you share examples of very bad translations?
