When I am setting up Thunderbird on a new machine, I would appreciate it if the account setting for Synchromization and Storage, "Keep messages in all folders for this account on this computer" would default to off. I need to be able to access my email with a full client from at least 4 different computers, each of which is a dual-boot with some combination of Windows, macOS, and Linux, plus an iPad and iPhone, regardless of which OS I happen to be running at the moment. Each of these installation of Thunderbird may have 4 or more email addresses configured. This does not mean that I want to have 40 different copies of my gigabytes worth of email on every installation. I only need one or two local copies, at most, on my primary home desktop machine, since cloud storage of my email is far more efficient and safe. In no case do I want all my email stored locally on a mobile or portable device, in the event of device theft, and storage space on mobile and portable devices is usually smaller and more expensive. It would be much more efficient if during the account setup process, Thunderbird would default to no local storage, or at least asking the user whether or not this particular installation should be synchronized.
