Many users complain on SUMO that they have lost their profile data, assuming that Sync is an online backup service. They are used to this in other browsers, so they don't think that it is necessary to have Firefox Sync on another device or that they need to back up their profile manually before formatting their computers. Explaining this in KB articles is not enough, few people read it. Firefox needs to make this clear through backup suggestions in popup notifications, banners, whatever. There are keyboard shortcuts for opening Bookmarks or History in the Firefox sidebar, but the Synced Tabs sidebar lacks a corresponding shortcut. See the following screenshot: --- Additional, related shortcut feature request: In the Synced Tabs sidebar, when I right-click a device, there's a shortcut for "Open All in Tabs". But I'm not aware of a way to use this shortcut without having to right-click the device first. The colors in Gmail are useful for distinguishing the different labels at a glance. However, the user-created labels in Thunderbird are all the same yellow-ish color. To make transitioning from Gmail to Thunderbird, more natural, these could match. ... View more

I just downloaded and installed Thunderbird. When setting things up, it looks like my Google account and calendars have synced nicely. For some reason, google tasks aren't imported/synced. I currently use the Windows Mail app because it gives me everything in one solution but I know that it is going to be replaced.   I can link and unlink inboxes, I can see all my calendars, tasks and contacts synced.  I did add my outlook account to see how that would work, and I would love to move to Thunderbird.  If it can't be considered by the Thunderbird developers could someone else look at this.   I am looking for desktop solutions that give me the same functionality. Following a loss of many tabs I sent to another Firefox session from my iPhone using the Firefox Send Tab to function (long story...), I noticed that no log of these tabs was kept. Recovering these tabs thus proved to be impossible due to the way Sync works. Sync is very useful and should become even better when the new Profile Management System lands. However, there's still a few things that could be worked on. Real-life example: I have 2 PCs, one I use daily and one I use once in a while. Sync normally allows me to keep my bookmarks (among other stuff) up-to-date across both. But, if I log in to the first and apply changes to my bookmarks (say I delete some bookmarks), when I log in on the second a few days latter, sync merges the bookmarks across the two devices bringing back the bookmarks I had deleted. Something similar happens with Homepage. The way I see it, Sync needs to be more like git and could use at least a few options: One session / machine should be declared as main, Other sessions / machines are automatically branches, When logging in to an account, Firefox should ask whether to "keep the main", "update main based on current branch" or "merge the two" (like what it's doing currently), Doing so should display a summary of changes; this could be like git-diff per synced item (AI-generated summaries is another plausible venue nowadays I guess). Importantly, the summary should highlight which changes come from which session / machine and what are their timestamps, Possibly add a confirmation dialogue as a final step to avoid accidents. I get sometimes several junk (spam) emails, which automatically go correctly to the junk folder after some seconds.  The problem is, for some of them, I get (Gnome ubuntu) notifications; I guess, because they are not instantly sent to the junk folder. It takes some seconds for that, which is why I think the notification is produced. So the request is to wait for the junk analyser to act, or some strategy, to avoid producing the notifications corresponding to email that a couple of seconds later is sent to the junk folder.   ...
