Hello Connect Community!
This is Nicole from the Fx Essentials Product Management Team. I am in the process of exploring some potential changes around hotkeys/keyboard shortcuts, as this is something that is being asked for quite a bit in the Connect Community.
I have a few questions I'd like to put out there for everyone.
1. What are your top five most used hotkeys/keyboard shortcuts?
2. What shortcuts do you wish Firefox offered?
3. Is there a non-Firefox browser you prefer because of how they 'do' hotkeys/shortcuts?
As always, thank you in advance for contributing to this discussion! Looking forward to hearing all of your answers!
Thanks!
Nicole

I'm not against keyboard shortcuts, but I don't want them!
How many times have I mistakenly deleted, moved, or otherwise acted on an email because my fat wrist accidentally pressed a key!
And how do you know where something went if you don't know what you did...
So, put shortcuts if you want, but please, don't enable them by default to avoid false manipulation.

I want to have a keybind just for tab search in firefox. In chromium based browsers, we have
I usually have a lot of tabs open just in case I need them when working on a project. I basically just wanted file picker feature like "Ctrl+P" in vscode to seach files. I just want a hotkey in firefox as well to search tabs. The one that comes close to it right now is "Ctrl+Shift+Tab" which right now list all tabs. Isn't it better to assign that hotkey for search tab instead? "Ctrl+Shift+Tab" just list all tabs and I just have to use my mouse to select the tab which seems useless for me at least.
For now, I have to "Ctrl+L" and type % and space or "Ctrl+Shift+tab" and "tab" to go to search tabs options and click enter to search tabs. Can we improve on this?

It's almost a year since we've started commenting on this topic, not that anyone from firefox cares, but I wanted to check anyway. Sorry for missing the one year anniversary last month. I guess I can try and be on time next year.. I'm sure there will be many more years before we get this update. I really wonder if we'll see it reach drinking age. We can gather together and tell our grandkids about the days we wanted customizable hotkeys in firefox, HAH! how silly and idealistic we were.. like it was actually possible! *wipes the tear from his eye* phew..
@fxpm-nicole thanks for giving us a crumb of hope, even for a brief second, I'm sure you did it with good intentions and not just to ghost us. What am I talking about, why would anyone from firefox do that?! That'd be silly. I won't even ask about the current status about this topic, as I know it's on indefinite hiatus. I'll probably see dinosaurs roam the earth once again before seeing customizable hotkeys in firefox.
To whomever reading this post, have a nice day!

Nicole please tell us what, in your opinion, is the main difficulty in completing this necessary accessibility feature ?

I just quit Firefox and moved back to Brave, in large part because of this.

Will this ever happen?

I have been a Firefox user for a couple of months now and am now considering switching to Opera or Vivaldi because several keyboard shortcuts I use on websites are default Firefox shortcuts and are not usable.

Is this still going to be changed? Why has it been more than a year?
1. F1-F12 (w/o holding fn). I mapped a ton of macOS shortcut scripts, and I can't use most of them while on a Firefox window.
2. I wish y'all would just allow built-in shortcuts/hotkeys to be edited. I tried using extensions as a workaround, but that didn't work, and I didn't know enough to modify about:config, so now I'm just sad.
3. I switched to firefox this year to escape chrome, but I've been using safari & chrome for work since the shortcuts help speed up a lot of my research.
