Would be nice to be able to use image upscaling on video players, as an optional feature you could toggle for any individual video player.

@3nde Bugger I did that and now comparing yt vids on firefox and chrome, firefox doesn't seem to have the super resolution working, meanwhile chrome does have it

Was really looking forward to this! Maybe it's been pushed back to 115 because there were complications or what happened?

No idea, mine doesn't seem to be doing all that much either. Hope we get this soon

@cateis this working on all videos on chrome? because according to nvidia it should work only if video is at top quality already and it is still lower than display. For example 720p video on 1080p screen.

I tried 360p and 480p videos on firefox and see no improvement after enabling it. However I do not use chrome so I cannot compare.

@kkimcan you give us an update about current feature status? Preference was clearly added to stable build but it does not seem to do anything.

Hi everyone,

Thank you for your patience. @piterk is right: the config "gfx.webrender.super-resolution.nvidia" was rolled out as a hidden feature. I want to shed some light on this part of the product process: we'd need to work with NVIDIA and AMD directly as partners so that they (and we) can provide official support for similar technologies to you, ideally across multiple operating systems. The official support is something we are considering in our current planning phase, but our outreach can only go so far.

If there are any partnership-related developments regarding this post that come along, I'll share them. For any issues with the current config, please consult the Bugzilla ticket for troubleshooting.

Thank you!

For what it's worth, I really hope you guys at Mozilla can get them to partner with you. Firefox is just as important to internet browsing as alternative media outlets are to gaining information. And watching videos is a big part of browsing these days and will only get bigger moving forward, so any good feature that makes watching videos an overall better experience is definitely worth pursuing so that Firefox won't lose out to Chrome or Edge.

Thank you for your words, @Arexodius ❤️ Video really is such a huge part of browsing, and we want to prepare so we can rise up to better quality playback in Firefox for all of our users to enjoy in the years (and technological advances) to come.

Aaand there it is, finally working with the "gfx.webrender.super-resolution.nvidia" config in FF Developer Edition 116.0b1 👍

Nvidia RTX Video Enhancement / Super Resolution would be great. Nvidia added support for many Chromium based browsers, but not for Firefox.
