Firefox supports WebAuthn, but as far as I could tell only with hardware tokens. I could not find a word about Firefoxs support of Passkeys (like Apple announced recently) anywhere

Personally I don't know why passkeys werent adopted much sooner, it seems such a long hanging fruit to just store the key in the FF password manager.

I use FF to support a web where there is not only one option, like Chrome, but FF keeps falling behind and behind instead of being at the forefront. This should be a top priority.

I see. Yeah, on Windows 11 I had no issues, but I have dual boot, this is an issue in Linux, because it only works in Chromium and well, I'm not totally dependant on QR Passkeys, but they are just faster to use than going into my auth app and looking for the 2FA code of that specific website...

Yeah, sadly Firefox refuses to implement native passkey support, even for operating systems without proper support.

There is still no Information as to when Firefox will implement native Passkey support right?

it’s kinda sad bc I’d love to use Firefox but on Linux I can’t use my Passkeys stored on my phone, whereas it works with Brave (or any chromium browser for that regard)

Please implement native passkey support. It's an absolute no brainer for all browsers.

Native Passkey support would be a big deal especially for linux systems where Chromium based browsers already have such a feature.

Here are some updates from the team working on WebAuthn Passkeys:

  • Firefox now has full WebAuthn support across all platforms, including Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, and Linux (there is not platform passkey provider on Linux, we support Passkeys stored on USB security keys on Linux).
  • Some of the questions raised in this thread may be answered here: Web Authentication API Documentation.
  • Sign-in with a nearby device should work on Android. If you encounter any issues, please file a bug here: Bugzilla - Web Authentication.
  • We're currently working on patches for the remaining WebAuthn Level 3 features. However, no timeline has been set yet.

Using Firefox Nightly (current build is 133.0a1) with Windows 11. I use 1password for my passkeys. With Brave Browser, a website that support passkey show me a 1password popup to sign-in with the passkey. With Firefox, it show the Windows Security popup instead. So I can't use the passkey saved in 1password.

Is this a problem with 1password or Firefox ?!

UPDATE : Dawn !! For people who whould have the same problem, just look at the settings of 1password !! Sign-in with passkeys was disabled ! Works now, sorry...
