Making moves
Status: New idea

Currently I'm doing research on a heap of products, and collating into an online spreadsheet. I'm wearing out the Ctrl+Tab keys flicking back and forth, copying/pasting etc!

It would be awesome to "pop-out" a tab and have it "float" on top like what Picture-in-Picture does. I know you can the tab in a new window, resize it, move it etc but it still doesn't stick on-top and has borders that take up space.

I've seen extensions that try to do split screen for tabs but they don't seem to work very well. Thanks!

This feature has recently been productionised in Edge, and it's excellent! Surprising seeing it work this well given it's Microsoft 🙂

Here's hoping for FF soon! 🙏

I just discovered the split mode in edge and it is a game changer in both professional and private life. This development should be prioritized asap.

Yeah the KDE Team had it in the Dolphin File Manger for quite a while I knew browser developers would eventually catch on to it. Now all I'm still waiting on some bug fixes and some better features in Firefox. I know this feature would be good for Firefox I also have a list of other ideas https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/discussions/some-proposals-and-changes-that-i-would-like-to-see-in-fi...

  •  But what I would like to see is a Tab Overview/Tab Dash Board The Gnome Team can do it with their apps so can Mozilla with Firefox.
  • Snap Layouts this is from Windows 11 but in a way Firefox could use it.
  • Split View (KDE Plasma Dolphin File Manger)
  • Workspaces came also from Operating Systems/Desktop Environments (Gnome 2, MATE) (Ubuntu MATE) (Microsoft Edge) (Windows 10) (Windows 11).

Yes! A split screen feature would be great.

I have wanted this functionality built into Firefox for a long time. I modify the browser to add toolbars to the sides of the window so even though I already use a tiling window manager, extra windows crowd the content with my toolbars enough to make tab tiling a feature I have a strong desire for and thus far my attempts to get it to work via modifying the browser/building a fork/etc haven't worked. I assume due to a fundamental and rather esoteric aspect of the lower depths of the browser's somewhat maze-like source code I haven't divined yet.

The best workaround is to remove the sidebar's maximum width via userChrome.css, but its still not 100% since that means only 2 pages at most and introduces the painful aspects of working with the sidebar.

PS Vivaldi's implementation is highly flawed, not to mention being a chrome fork which is painful enough to use and limited in how you can modify it inherently in ways I am too spoiled by userChrome.css to move to.

I find the split screen functionality in Edge, encompassing both horizontal and vertical splits, to be noteworthy for its impact on improving my productivity workflow.  This feature significantly diminishes the necessity of employing multiple windows.  It would be highly desirable to observe a comparable or enhanced functionality integrated into Firefox.

私もFirefoxにタブタイリング機能を期待しています。

I'm also looking forward to the tab tiling feature in Firefox.

Splitview in the same tab

This is a feature currently in Microsoft Edge. It is a phenominal feature that is not available on Firefox or even Chrome. Firefox needs this. I stick with Firefox for the amazing PIP it offers but we need to get some ore features like this one!

Split Screen

For the first time ever I saw something on Microsoft Edge that I wish other browsers had. A split screen browser, so if I am in something like QuickBooks Online I can record transactions and still see the report or transaction register I was working from without having to navigate between two tabs. I have attached a screen shot from the demo company for the accounting technology we created, so it doesn't have any real accounting activity in it. In this you can see what I am talking about and this is a great feature for CPAs that are looking at client accounting and likely need to make an adjustment. Many don't like QBO because they can't do this like they can in the Desktop version of QuickBooks. We built it into our software so instead of every click creating a new interface, it opens panels. Absent specific programming like ours, the button to push is circled in red. I have already told CPAs that use our software to look at this, I would love to point them to Mozilla instead.

I have switched to vivaldi because firefox dropped the original Tile Tabs add-on. FIrefox shuold implement this: one window, multiple tabs (at least two split vertically)

Thanks abraheem8k, I downloaded it today. I like it. As a developer, I like Firefox as a more known recommendation for our app so I still would like to see them add the dual screen but it certainly is an interesting option.

Thanks abraheem8k, i downloaded that today and it looks interesting. Easier to recommend a recognizable name like Firefox for our app, so i am hoping Firefox will get split screen added and do it in a much easier way than Vivaldi, i like clicking a button instead of all the shift and right click, hoist a leg and fart thing that Vivaldi has you do.

Split view where two websites can be viewed side by side
