The Quit button only appears when you select the option to clear history on exit. Sometimes I forget that pressing the Quit button also clears the history and there are times when I just want to close the browser without clearing the history.

Frankly, that's what the Quit button does. Just make it clear that the Quit button also purges history to remove confusion.

AND please reposition this button, that triggers such an irreversible action, in a menu area that is not easily tappable by accident. That is very annoying and disappointing.

TL;DR Please call in your UX expert and introduce some friction!

I understand that the product logic is to facilitate data deletion but:

1. users that are unaware of the action that this button triggers may see all their browsing history deleted without understanding WHY and with NO recovery option

2. when the app is translated to an OS language that is not English, the label copy may not fully convey to the user the behavior of that button.

3. "Close" means close in general audience understanding. Imply "and delete" is a severe UX writing mistake that is not acceptable by an established tech company. Firefox is a browser that should aim at being used by a variety of users, not only by geeks.
