From the previous post on Crowdicity:

I would like to see vertical tabs baked in. MS Edge now has it out of the box!

I currently use addons for this - but there's no way to disable the top tab bar, which duplicates the tabs and takes up space.

Vertical tabs (with top bar disabled) would free up more space for web content, which is (usually) vertical. Most screens are widescreen (RIP ThinkPad 4:3 ratios), so the less browser UI at the top/bottom, the more content we can view.

As a daily user of firefox, I would love to see this feature come to life too! The benefits of vertical tab bar as opposed to horizontal tab bar, as many other has said, is the fact that more tabs can be shown at once with readable website title when it is layed out vertically, while also making the website itself readable by providing more vertical space.

Specifically, I would like to have some way to have a vertical tab at either side of the window, fully extend from the top to the bottom of the screen and perhaps a way to make these tabs fade in and out when mouse hovers close to it, so that it can also provide horizontal space, and the ability to move the url bar and all that to where the tabs currently live, beside the window control buttons like minimize / maximize buttons.

This is need to be a feature because the vertical tabs are way more convenient than the horizon one, and please don't ignore this almost every browser already have this feature

The developers should explain why this idea is not going to be realized. Otherwise, the community will no longer cooperate with the developers.

I want to see the opened tabs and bookmarks as a column on the right side, as Vivaldi can do

I really think with flexible space, Firefox can be better.

Better native vertical tabs with title bar (like in Microsoft Edge)

Already have this feature request post for vertical tabs, but I think with flexible space in Firefox, we can do better!

Currently, Tree style tabs can do make Firefox have vertical tab feature, however, which I mentioned above, won't be possible even with userChrome.css, also this plugin have no collapse all feature like Edge:

Hope you guys can really consider this idea, thanks!

I sincerely choose Firefox because it seems to be the most honest browser out there. Being an organization freak, I very much fancy this feature being in my daily browser.

I think Sidebery does a very pretty job of implementing this, adding features such as tab groups and a tree model (features that in my own humble opinion *cannot* be looked over when talking about a reasonable implementation of vertical tabs), but it's not done in the most elegant way. It has bugs, like every development project, but some of them make the extension somewhat annoying to use. For example, sometimes I accidentally close a tab and It's children, so then when I Ctrl+Shift+T my way out of the inconvenience, my tabs end up being incorrectly organized in the tree, above and below. I believe this may be related to the fact that Sidebery manages it's own keybinds and whatnot, but I'm no web developer to figure this out on my own.

One other feature that most surely would need to go along vertical tabs, is the option to permanently hide the conventional tab-bar, because of you course wouldn't need it if you used vertical tabs, and you shouldn't have to go looking through docs and editing platform-specific config files to do such thing. It should be as simple as clicking a radio button somewhere in the settings.

tl;dr

vertical tabs ROCK, but pleaaase don't miss out on tab groups and nested tabs, pls

thx firefox ❤️

I know I'm late to this thread, but I wanted to add that the lack of vertical tabs is keeping me from using Firefox 100% of the time. Firefox was my default browser earlier this year, but then I had to switch to Edge because I was having some issues with Firefox not loading content on Windows and iOS. Then about 2 months ago I discovered vertical tabs in Edge and that completely upgraded my workflow. I've tried using Sideberry and Tree Style Tab, but the implementations aren't as smooth as I'd like and the UI is off from Firefox just enough to cause an unnecessary increase in cognitive load.

Chiming in here as well. Using Edge as my main browser at the moment but would love to go back to Firefox fulltime.
Can´t really give up the MS Edge vertical tab implementation though. It´s just too good and makes my life so much easier. Treestyle Tab does some of what Edge can do but just isn´t really there.
What´s desperately missing for me are user created groups i can manage my tabs in, along with them being color coded to my choosing and having the indent line in the same color. It´s so frickin useful.
Would go back to Firefox in a heartbeat if they´d just copy the Edge implementation and design.
If they can even improve upon it, even better!
