This feature, that works in the desktop version, is immensely useful for both users and mail service providers. Our customers has an autoconfig.theirdomain.com DNS records, that means easy setup in Thunderbird, as it knows our servers and settings.
Not all people will have Thunderbird installed, and can use the QR scan - Some people will want to use a webmail and on the go, they want a (good) mail app, like Thunderbird. So the same concept of Autoconfiguration should work here.

I would like to see the Thunderbird Chat implement OMEMO for XMPP messages. Every modern XMPP messenger has OMEMO, and implementing it in Thunderbird would preclude having to have an additional XMPP desktop app just for messaging.

I have Thunderbird connected to Gmail. In Gmail folders are just labels on the same message. If I now use "Open in Conversation" for a message where individual messages are in multiple folders / labels, they are shown multiple times. Indeed each message that has at least one label is at least shown twice, once for the label folder, once for "All Messages" folder. It would be nice if in this conversation view identical messages are merged together to only show one entry with the folders schon in the respective column comma-separated for example.

Please fix the problem with notifications about new mail for letters that are moved to folders by filters. I receive many emails from different contacts. I have set up filters so that all these emails are sorted into thematic folders and automatically redirected to related contacts. Filters make my life much easier. But the downside is that Thunderbird does not show notifications for new emails. Notifications are only displayed for new contacts for which filters are not set up. (Translated by ChatGPT 🙂 )

I am wondering if there is a possibility to add a strikethrough icon to the compose window (may be also together with sub- and superscript). I use strikethrough quite often and it is very inconvenient to go to the menu each time.

On Android, we can click on "Install" to create a progressive web app shortcut on the home screen. However, depending on the website, sometimes they are simply named "Website". It would be nice to have an option to choose a name when creating the shortcut. Otherwise, we have to rely on the icon to know what it is.

Right now, if I try to import a calendar file (.ics) that does not follow the file format perfectly, it cannot be imported. This is a problem when other calendar programs ARE able to import them. To the end user, it looks like Thunderbird is failing at a basic task.
The bug tracker has numerous issues that stem from this like 1868843 but since the problem was caused by Microsoft, once Microsoft fixed their bug, the issue was closed.
But there's no reason why Thunderbird can't try to fix these simple formatting problems itself. Like the 7'th comment said "We should make it more accepting; if it hits EOF and our calendar structure is valid but we're missing ENDs for the still-open components, we should just assume they've ended and move on."
Other simple errors that thunderbird could handle are file lines that end with the wrong End-of-Line delimiter. (A problem that I ran into and made me look into all of this). Outlook handled this calendar file just fine.
In summary, the end user doesn't care if the file they import is valid or not, if it works with other programs, it's a bug in Thunderbird.

Google's AI Overview in their search engine is filled with useless bloatware, and is very annoying. Google currently does not offer any way to turn off the AI Overview in Google searches. Mozilla needs a browser extension that allows Google searches to open in the 'WEB' view rather the 'ALL' view. This would allow users to just see actual web results without the AI Overview. It needs to apply to web both searches originated in the search bar, as well as those opened from within the Google search results.

I so love TBird. Best email program on the planet.
I run it in Windows, Mac, and Linux worlds. And I love message filters. The one deficiency in that functionality: the ability to export and import a set of message rules to/from a data file. Lotsa folks have wanted this for a long time. I understand, though, the low level of programmer staffing on this vital project, and the many priorities already chewing up their time. My own time is also deeply chewed up for the next year by lots of stuff, in and out of the progging world. But: if nobody else does this little goodness before then, I'll take it on myself. Been playing with code for 4+ decades, including a long Microsoft stint, and writing books that teach other folks how to code, so this'll be quite doable, though somehow I'm imagining the code base might be a bit twisted in this area, since it hasn't happened yet. Anyways: just wanted to get this on the ideas list. -- stanley krute

I would love the ability to pin tabs on my Android. I have a number of tabs always open (news, weather, etc), and then I open all interesting items in new tabs. When done, I close those extra tabs, but often I close one of the "important" tabs by accident. If I could pin them, so that I would have to unpin them before closing, this would not happen. Even better if there was an option to close all unpinned tabs.

I think this is straightforward request. Benefits are obvious, yet I will list some: * current Thunderbird add-ons is very outdated * helps to spread awareness of Thunderbird among Firefox users and add-on devs * enables the possibility for creating themes compatible with both Firefox and Thunderbird * makes it easier to publish Thunderbird extensions based on existing Firefox add-ons. This would also help to enable Thunderbird support in Firefox Color (see https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/ideas/update-and-improve-firefox-color/idi-p/62017 for details).

Organizing multi-Account Containers into folders or Groups. My Firefox Multi-Account Containers are growing and I it is getting harder to open the right container. So it will benefit users like me if we were able to group containers into folders Additional suggestions: Having search bar on top of Containers list when you right click on the New Tab Button (+) Adding metadata to a Multi-Account Container for example Search Tags and Notes. The Tags will help when you are searching for containers beyond their name, and the notes will remind you why you made X container. I am a forgetful person... Aren't we all?

How about a "Float" tag that ALWAYS floats to the top of the email list? I usually have 4 or 5 items that should always appear of the top of the list but can't. Setting a new tag and always doing a quick filter is kludgy. Why not a "Float" setting, always on top and changeable or deleted at a single click? Kindly advise, Kenneth Wagner

I really like the new cards view. But what I miss so much, is that there isn't ANY way to get the size of the message. I receive a good deal of email with (sometimes animated) inline screenshots that are quite large. I want to see this info so that I can decide if I delete the image when replying to make the message smaller. This info can be anywhere. I don't mind getting it from a context menu. But I saw the new UI plans at https://thunderbird.topicbox.com/groups/ux/Tdb49a4666565e68e-M4aba7d876e0ced9c8d66ca58 and I see a few places where it can be displayed:

Hello, the sharing symbol for Firefox nightly version has arrived on the bottom toolbar. I want to put a translation button instead of this symbol. We can use this shortcut ourselves. Hello, the sharing symbol has been added to the bottom toolbar for the Firefox nightly version. I want to replace this symbol with a translation button. It would be great if we could edit this shortcut ourselves in Chrome and Kiwi Browser. Since Turkish is not among the downloadable languages, there is no translation sign in the bottom bar and translation into Turkish is not suggested. If this button appears, we will not have to constantly try to translate from the menu.

This is something Chrome can do that I found pretty useful and convenient. If your toolbar is on top, swipe scroll down to reveal it and then swipe down on the toolbar to reveal open tabs. Likewise if your toolbar is on the bottom swipe up to reveal and up again on the toolbar to reveal the tabs. Considering the dismissal gesture for the tab window is already a swipe towards the toolbar edge, this seems like a natural extension of that movement.

The new Translate Selection to English in Firefox 128 is nice, but the translated text and box is too small. I have to get a magnifying glass to read it. Maybe let the user select the font size. Not everyone has perfect eyesight.

The web has turned into one big distraction machine. I propose a mode where we can surf the net like reading the newspaper. No distractions. Essentially having readonly/focus mode enabled _all_the_time_. That way users can consume content without all the distractions and page load times would be blazing fast, as there's no need to render JS, etc. I understand this won't work for JS heavy websites but it would be up-to the user to disable it for a specific URL.
