In the current version of Firefox, bookmarks and bookmark folders are deleted immediately when you select the "Delete" command. No confirmation is required. It would be better if you could cancel or confirm the deletion via a prompt. This safety feature should definitely be included. Otherwise, you might accidentally click "Delete" and lose all your bookmarks.

The ability to undo the deletion (for some finite time) would be better than requiring confirmation, as users over time learn to reflexively confirm everything without reading nor thinking.

That's very important, what you're saying.

I definitely would have expected a prompt that included the name of the folder to be deleted and how many links within that folder would be deleted.

I am more in favor of there being a sort of recycle bin so it accounts for users that don’t want a prompt as well as users that want the ability to restore more than just the first immediate deletion.  Potentially also a flag to determine whether to prompt or to delete without prompting.
