It seems that it's already implemented. I support hort99's comment, but I can't add kudos to it for some reason.

Fully black background is important on Firefox for Android, where OLED displays are common. It lowers OLED energy usage and prevents burn-in.

Personally I would prefer modal tab groups like Panorama or Simple Tab Groups, so I don't see groups and tabs in the same view.
