I regularly run several Firefox profiles in parallel. Every once in a while, it seems the update logic gets confused and every window says "Firefox is being updated by another instance", with none being able to (even manually!) check for updates.

It would be great to have a different way of fixing that situation that doesn't require closing & reopening all instances and hoping it doesn't happen again…

I'm getting the same message, Firefox is Being updated by another instance. It won't get any updates, I've rebooted, I've reloaded Firefox, nothing is working. How can this be resolved????

It depends on the OS, yet have you tried the following?:

So, the lock file name seemed to be: UpdateLock-${hash}.
When I searched for the file pattern, 2 was found located in: C:\ProgramData\Mozilla\.
Both the files were created in 2022 but different months: preview.

With these lock files removed with all Thunderbird processes terminated and restart everything worked like a charm - opened the About window and it updated automatically immediately to the latest.
