Thunderbirds calendar is great. But its kinda random, in this mail program.

It doesnt really fit to the "one app one task" philosophy that is pretty normal everywhere. Everywhere you would have a seperate app for Mail or Calendar.

Wouldnt it be great to have a custom CSS window just launching the calendar without tabs and all that, having a different desktop entry?

The same for calendar, which would mostly make sense if good sync and desktop integration is there.

To explain the idea a bit more:

Thunderbirds interface is the one of a mail client. It has many toolbars etc. At the same time its also the interface of Firefox, with Tabs and all, which is a bit random in a mail client.

It is not intuitive at all to have mail, News and Calendar in one app. On Mobile phones and other environments these are separated.

To accomplish that, without changing much of the codebase, you could just use a different desktop entry that just launches the calendar. This should have lots of toolbars and mail stuff removed, as its supposed to be used as a separate app. It should also launch with a differen process ID / Name, and have a separate Icon that is not grouped with Thunderbird for example in KDE (which Libreoffice stil does sometimes)
