There are many languages in different places of the world. Currently, Firefox Translations doesn't provide succinct languages for people outside of Europe, the US and the UK. Please make sure to add more languages, especially significant ones, before starting to train Firefox Translations' neural networks. You have probably started already, but please make sure to add more languages.

Hey all,

Exciting news...

This idea was shared with our Product team, and we're happy to report that it is 'In development.' A Product Manager working for Translations will hop in this thread soon to add more context.

Please feel free to keep the conversation going and stay tuned for updated 😃

Please make Japanese top priority.

I hope it is better to train traditional Chinese and simplified Chinese separately rather than together, like I currently use Google Translate to translate web pages into traditional Chinese, their translation only results in characters in traditional Chinese, but using words in simplified Chinese. For example, the traditional Chinese word for "USB Flash Drive" should be "USB 隨身碟", but Google will translate it into a simplified Chinese word like "U盤".
I have also used other brands' translation functions, and I think the best experience in traditional Chinese is Apple's own translation function, where the characters and words are familiar traditional Chinese, but sometimes there are some errors.

@Jonhey,

Any new news about when the official Addons could be added

@Durjoy what do you mean with official add-ons added? You can use firefox-translations on desktop and on mobile with the collection option what is only available for beta and nightly and for ios i don't know anything about that. If i'm right ios doesn't have any add-ons because of security stuff.

@Jeppieoffical as adding the translator add-ons on Firefox vanilla, as I did some resources I found that you can only use translator addons in Firefox nightly with some configure done first, and here's the link https://github.com/mozilla/firefox-translations/#android

@Durjoy you can use it on firefox desktop and on firefox nightly android. I have just installed firefox beta android to answer your question and firefox-translations works perfect. So in short it works on every browser except firefox android, like i said before i don't know about ios and sadly firefox focus doesn't support it. I will put a link from a idea forum and then you can read it completely or go to page 2 to get more info about other stuff from firefox-translations.  https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/ideas/page-translator-for-firefox-android/idi-p/22986

There's a distinct lack of Asian languages in the choices.

hoping for Japanese and Korean translation models

@Jon is there any info about new languages getting worked on? Not the ones like dutch and russia that are in beta. Or are you not allowed to say that?

@Jeppie @Pharan thanks for bringing this up - let me touch base with the Translations team to see where we are with this and what's next

As others have mentioned, East Asian languages are necessary for me as well. Simplified and traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean are used on a daily basis.
Above all, the icon of this translation add-on depicts the Japanese hiragana "あ".

Thanks all for jumping in this thread 🙌

We are looking into adding more languages for our translations feature and will use Connect as a space for people to show support for a given language. So be sure to vote and share your feedback in the specific language threads - here are some examples...

Support Chinese translations

Japanese translate option in firefox translations

Support Korean translations

Support Hindi translations

Support Greek translations

...and more!

If you can't find a post for a desired language, please submit your own in the Ideas section. We look forward to working with you all on this very important feature 😀
