Having a confirm-before-quit option would be very helpful.  Other applications have already adopted this some time ago; particularly, on MacOS, it's easy to fat-finger CMD+Q vs CMD+W (close window).

Would it make sense to implement this (somewhat simple) feature?

OK, admit it.  We've all done it.  Clicked the wrong box and there goes all your tabs...  This is a no brainer.  Please implement this option in the name of user friendliness!  Confirm to quit!

I'm revisiting this again, as a MacOS user, the CMD+W (close window) and CMD+Q (quit) options are literally next to each other, easy to mistake.   It closed out a bunch of windows.

What will it take to implement a simple confirm-before-quit feature in Thunderbird?   Other applications in this arena provide for this, and some are even configurable whether to use it or not.  It seems like a no-brainer at this point.

Please?
