Apple and Google have cooperatively agreed to support ISO 21496-1, the HDR over JPG standard using Gain Maps, with SDR fallback if the monitor is SDR and/or the software only supports JPG. Apple calls ISO 21496-1 "Adaptive HDR".

ISO 21496-1 is already supported in Chromium browsers on Windows, as well as Android 15, iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15.

Please, add ISO 21496-1 support to Firefox.

Adobe "Gain Map", AKA Google "Ultra HDR", AKA Samsung "Super HDR", a very similar gain map technique for HDR with SDR fallback, would also be great to support. But since ISO 21496-1 has become the cross-platform standard, it makes sense ISO 21496-1 should be the highest priority. (In Android 15, photos are encoded simultaneously with Ultra HDR and ISO 21496-1). More info on gain maps generally:
