Currently opening the search bar (e.g. by CTRL + F) resizes the website. Because the bar pushes the space. This should not happen. The search bar should be a search popover like in Chrome. I like the Download section of Firefox. In Chrome it behaves like the search bar in Firefox. A bar at the bottom which changes the content height. Anyway, it would be great if the search function behaves passive without affecting the website size. Just like the Download List Popover or the Search Function in Chrome.

I feel that there is a security issue with this request, since a website could "fake" a search input.

Yes good point. Since the search bar becomes part of the website content, we could just addListener to CTRL + F, preventDefault and display fake search bar which looks like the Firefox search bar. There you can paste text that you do not want to share with this website or however. I really would just use the same behavior like the download popover. Another point is to highlight all occurrences like Chrome does. I don't want to praise Chrome. I just switched to Firefox due some latest issues with Chrome. I just pick some good things. Every browser or everything has pros and cons. I'm not a fan boy. ^^ So far I like Firefox. After many settings adjustments. But it's like everywhere (especially Chrome which also omits some options ... anyway). Back to this issue: The search bar is extremely annoying. Maybe not on all websites. But if the website changes it's content due to height changed, it can change it's layout and shifts content. Which is a no-go in UI design. I would really consider to change it regardless of "kudos". 🙂
