I don't know why no email app seems to have this function because I think it would be a killer. My inbox is a bit like a to-do list: emails that are unread I need to read, and emails that I have read but need to do something with stay in the inbox, otherwise they're archived. If I look at an email and immediately know that I don't need to read the rest of it or do anything more with it, I want to mark it read and archive it. Particularly in a notification, but also in the inbox view if I can tell just from the sender / subject. I would really like these two actions to be combined into one, especially as an option available from the notification, so I don't need to open the app at all! As it is I can mark an email read, then I have to go in and archive it later, or I can archive it, then I have an unread count on the archive folder that I need to deal with. This would, I hope, be an easy addition with a big plus for efficiency!

This is a functionality that is sorely missed by many, I'm sure. Several popular email apps have already implemented this. One of them is Spark email: https://sparkmailapp.com/help/add-manage-accounts/customize-notifications

Basically they made the notification action buttons configurable. You can choose from a few select options. For example you could have "mark read, archive, delete" buttons configured. If you want to revisit an email later, you mark it read. If you know it requires no action but might still be required later, such as a package tracking update, you archive it. If you know you will never need it, such as an unwanted newsletter, you delete it. All this straight from the notification panel, without even having to unlock your phone. Obviously use cases differ, but this option allows for a lot more flexibility.

@Jon  It looks like this request has been open for a long time. Can we please prioritise it?
