Hello dear community, I love the Firefox browser and appreciate the many volunteers who contribute to its improvement.

However, there's one feature I'm really missing for my academic work. Highlighting is great, and the new comment function is also useful. But what's definitely missing is a dedicated function in the sidebar that shows what and where I've highlighted text.

Implementing this in a future version is urgently needed. It could be implemented just like Apple's Preview app, which has everything needed to quickly find specific text passages. I've attached an image showing how this is implemented in Preview.

This function would then replace all other viewers, and one could perform everything important for scientific work in a single app without having to switch between applications.

Greeting from Germany

@Valentin93 this is actually already available today, you can click on the comment icon in the toolbar (top right) to view the sidebar with the comments!

See the "Useful Tips" section under "Comment in PDF files" on https://support.mozilla.org/kb/view-pdf-files-firefox-or-choose-another-viewer (the section names are translated to your language, so "Useful Tips" will not exactly be "Useful Tips").

Hi @marco , Please excuse my English – I think there's been a slight misunderstanding. 🙂

I'm not referring to the regular comment function; I'm familiar with that. I'm talking about the feature where you can simply highlight a paragraph while reading, and it automatically appears in the sidebar without having to write a separate comment.

The idea is that when reading an academic text, you can simply highlight important passages (without adding a note) and later see an overview of all your highlights in the sidebar, along with a few lines of preview. You can then click on a highlight and jump directly to the corresponding section in the PDF document.
