Status: New idea

In Firefox Android, I often have multiple tabs open. When I scroll up and down to navigate through the tabs, I sometimes accidentally close a tab. Probably because I was swiping diagonally up. I have a few seconds to click the undo button that pops up.

I've never intentionally used this gesture since I click the x button to close a tab.

Please add an option to disable the side swipe gesture.

That's brilliant @ Jon. Thank you.

@JonThanks! I was wondering my idea hasn't gotten traction despite being a top kudoed idea for a few weeks now.

This is a seriously bad bug to me.

Lost countless tabs

+1 to fix this.  Or have a flag to disable.

This is a serious issue, please fix this. Why is this losing traction despite the support from the community manager? If this continues to be ignored then we will have to make our voices heard by making negative Play Store reviews.

A sort of workaround is to swipe at the edges if you can (or at the center between the tabs) so you are less prone to swipe diagonally, but even so it still happens! How can the sensitivity have been set to something that ridiculous and more importantly how can the developers still be oblivious to this issue?

+1 please enable this as an option in tab settings, I have janky fingers and it's a massive accessibility help for me

This seems to be very hardware dependent. Was never an issue on the old phone, new phone it happens 10+ times a day. Even the slightest horizontal movement makes stuff fly off the screen.

Turn up the threshold to 11 or just let people disable it.

I want to personally thank the person who made this feature a reality... They have wasted so much of my time I simply use my phone less now.

The current behaviour is a usability nightmare. Especially when holding phone with one hand, and using thumb to scroll (there is a diagonal bias to that movement that often closes the tab).

So +1 for a setting for this.

(Just switched to Firefox from Chrome ... and this is giving me second thoughts.)

I run into this issue every day using Firefox Mobile. It's incredibly frustrating to reopen so many accidentally closed tabs!

It would really improve the browser experience if an option to disable this feature was implemented.

+1 let us disable swipe to close

I was going to create my own "idea" suggesting this very thing and noticed this pop up during it's creation. Not surprised everyone wants to turn this off as well and I'm not surprised Mozilla is doing NOTHING about it. Firefox is dying as a browser because the higher ups are either incapable or unwilling to implement any new ideas. I've personally created ideas for a dark mode for this site ( https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/ideas/moz-a-connect-dark-mode/idi-p/38575 ), a restart button for the main drop down menu ( https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/ideas/restart-button/idi-p/5080 ) and a feature to not only manually save but even transfer your browser session ( https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/ideas/session-save-transfer/idi-p/38947 ) and none of them have been implemented despite receiving a lot of support, being very easy to implement and being several years old. Might be time to move on to a browser that actually cares about it's users, any suggestions?

I'm getting close to switching browsers just because I deal with this so often.

I noticed that the issue is much less bad if Tabs are in List orientation instead of Grid. Still annoying but almost acceptable.
