Status: New idea

In Firefox Android, I often have multiple tabs open. When I scroll up and down to navigate through the tabs, I sometimes accidentally close a tab. Probably because I was swiping diagonally up. I have a few seconds to click the undo button that pops up.

I've never intentionally used this gesture since I click the x button to close a tab.

Please add an option to disable the side swipe gesture.

Please disable this gesture entirely! Everyone is perfectly capable of tapping the X, we don't need another way to close a tab.

I think the feature can stay, but please just fix it.

Please measure the swipe direction for more than a millisecond to decide if my action is horizontal or vertical.

The action of closing a tab should also be a swipe movement of at least a third of the screen widht, not just two pixels

I'm trying to switch to FF on Android having been a long time desktop user and it's weird how different it is... I expected this to be in about:config but you can't even access that in the stable browser 😭

You really need a setting to disable this gesture, it's awful.

Absolutely agreed! I also made my account just for this issue. I accidentally close a tab basically every time I scroll, and since my tab list is too long to fit on my screen, and I always start on the top, this means that basically every time I switch tabs I close one. I'd really appreciate a fix here (being able to turn it off would be my preference, but a sensitivity fix would help a lot already).

Thank you for considering this!

Just repeating what everyone said, remove the feature or add an option to disable it or fix the gesture because is too sensitive.

I do this quite a few times a day by accident. It's really annoying, I've never used this gesture to close a tab.

Plus one to this, it's so frustrating and makes me want to use a different browser every time

Plus one for option to disable or drastically reduced sensitivity.

Wake up Mozilla! This is a bug already. It becomes unusable. Fix it

Yeah, really annoying -_-

Sometimes the undo button doesn't even appear!

Honestly I'm switching back to Brave until this changes. It makes the browser legitimately unusable for me. Fix this already, it's been 7 months!

I keep a few dozens tabs open, and this issue occurs multiple times a day; it's incredibly frustrating.

To scroll quickly through my tabs, I instinctively drag my thumb in a full arc (thumb pivot) across the screen. This arc naturally starts from a ~90+45° angle at the bottom to 45° at the top.

The problem arises because the left and right swipe actions are triggered at a very steep 45° angle.
Those accustomed to fast scrolling are guaranteed to delete tabs accidentally all the time. It also makes lazy thumb scrolling impossible.

Triggering those left and right swipes (close tabs, remove tab from collection, etc..) at a more reasonable 10° or even 20° angle would resolve the problem.

Remove it entirely pls, the X button is already doing it's job

I finally got so annoyed that I tried to see if there was a setting to turn it off. I'm going back to Brave browser based on the inactivity here.

I can't scroll through the tabs without accidentally closing them. This must be a bug.
