From the previous post on Crowdicity:

I would like to see vertical tabs baked in. MS Edge now has it out of the box!

I currently use addons for this - but there's no way to disable the top tab bar, which duplicates the tabs and takes up space.

Vertical tabs (with top bar disabled) would free up more space for web content, which is (usually) vertical. Most screens are widescreen (RIP ThinkPad 4:3 ratios), so the less browser UI at the top/bottom, the more content we can view.

I like the Tree Style Tabs setup, but I think the important things is for Firefox to natively support vertical tabs. Grouping/nesting could be handled by extensions or added later.

It's not exactly accurate to call it a "nice-to-have" - it is still an integral part of the web browser that must be implemented sooner rather than later.

But if it means getting vertical tabs out quicker, then sure, let tab grouping come later.

I see native tab grouping as a nice-to-have that can come later, please make vertical tabs come quicker

Anecdata: this feature is the one I have seen requested most for Firefox over the years.

Vertical tabs are a killer feature for a browser, especially on laptops with letterbox screens. Firefox can make itself indispensable for a bunch of users. It is such an easy win.

Quick, get it done, don't let this feature become a serious reason to use Edge.

@PeskyHyena-- I agree. Vertical tabs are the only reason I use Edge vs. Firefox full time. The old horizontal row of ever-shrinking tabs is an outmoded interface.

I want to use FF for everything. Please make it happen, Mozilla.

I created an account mostly just to say how glad am to see so many people requesting this feature.

I've been a vertical tabs fan since my brief tryst with OmniWeb back in the 2000s. Since then, I've found the various iterations of Firefox- and Chrome-based vertical tab extensions to be janky and altogether insufficient, and now I'm one of those weirdos who prefers Edge over Firefox specifically because of my strong feelings about native vertical tabs.

I'd much rather use Firefox, however, and the second they release a version with native vertical tabs, I'll be back in a heartbeat!

Tab UX changes have basically stagnated for the last decade. It has been a clear pain point, and it is evident new browser entrants are trying to use innovations here as a differentiator to get customer. Vertical tabs have emerged as a game-changer, catering to modern widescreen displays and offering a unique approach to tab management. By adopting this feature, Firefox can underscore its commitment to user-centric design and productivity, setting itself apart and rekindling the interest of users seeking a superior browsing experience. Embracing vertical tabs could be the key to reclaiming Firefox's position as a trailblazer in the browser landscape.

This innovation not only enhances user organization and multitasking efficiency, but it also presents a strategic opportunity to win back market share from Chrome.

Not Only Vertical Tabs, but Split Screen has also now become essential for productivity & multitasking

@0x4C3DD thanks for adding to the discussion! There's also a separate thread for a split screen feature here: Split-screen (view two pages at once) - feel free to share your thoughts there too 😃

I continue to hope this gets implemented natively as well.  An additional extension API for more development would be quite welcome.

Please. Please implement native vertical tabs that work like Edge or Brave (i.e., with auto-hide and a thumbnail preview on hover). Please
