From the previous post on Crowdicity:
I would like to see vertical tabs baked in. MS Edge now has it out of the box!
I currently use addons for this - but there's no way to disable the top tab bar, which duplicates the tabs and takes up space.
Vertical tabs (with top bar disabled) would free up more space for web content, which is (usually) vertical. Most screens are widescreen (RIP ThinkPad 4:3 ratios), so the less browser UI at the top/bottom, the more content we can view.

Any update on this? Last official update seems to be from May this year mentioning the devs looking into a possible implementation.
I´d love to be able to come back to Firefox but the vertical tab implementation on Edge is literally what´s keeping me there. It´s so darn useful.
Heck you could just copy the MS Edge design and features for vertical tabs and i´d be a 100% Firefox user in no time again.
* pinned tabs handling and sortability
* user created groups with user choosable color codes and colored indented line
* grouping features
Are the things i want most. Treestyle Tab/Sideberry just can´t replicate this for me without being overly complicated or relying on userCSS.
@knavarroI'm using this userChrome.css with Tab Center Reborn, feels very native. Also support themes (I'm using the Pop!_OS one).
No native support for vertical tabs is THE REASON for me to use Edge instead of Firefox.
What I want is:
Vertical tabs on a side of the window with only the sites icons visible unless you hover over it. On hover it should expand, but NOT change the rendering of the site's content (TreeStyleTab for example moves everything to the right on expansion). It is totally fine for me that content is hidden while the tabs are expanded (and I actually much prefer this over shifting/resizing the contents). When the mouse doesn't hover over the tabs they should become hidden on the side again. (This is the same behavior as in Edge).
Option to remove title bar completly
The grouping like in TreeStyleTabs would also be nice to have, but is less important to me than the other two points
Brave also added this in their Nightly channel back in September. Come on Mozilla! 🙂
Vertical tabs as buttons / icons | tabs panel on the right !! TABBAR
Vertical tabs may be more optimized for reducing "body wide". I use pinned tabs frequently for that reason I like the vertical tabs. It allows me to move sight and (right_mouse) hand over the browser and access to my stuff. On horizontal is a hard task to manage every time of use, even on panel.

(Note: a similar idea has been merged into this thread)
I made a repo describing how to make a good looking vertical tabs in Firefox.
Here is a result:
And here is a repo: https://github.com/roworu/firefox-vertical-tabs
I hope it could help someone wait an official implementation from Mozilla team.
Following repo has an implementation that makes the vertical tabs look like MS Edge- vertical tabs hide on mouse over. I suggest changing the line --thin-tab-width: 1px; to --thin-tab-width: 40px; if you want to see the icons on the tabs.
I really hope this idea gets implemented into Firefox. Edge's vertical tabs are far more superior to Firefox's extensions.
