I'm personally a heavy tab user but have always wondered why there is almost no support for tab grouping or customization in the native tab bar in Firefox.

I think making it able to group like Google Chrome does for example or at least giving more access for extensions and add-ons would significantly improve the UI in that regard.

Nice! Today is the first time the tabs remain after a restart (at least for me). This makes it really usable for the first time.

looking forward to be able to rearrange them by dragging. I also wonder how the ‘save and close group’ option will work.

@VeganFox  Are you saying tab groups is already there? I am confused

Is there any plan to allow users to set tab container name when tabs are grouped?

  1. Select multiple tabs
  2. Right-click/control-click selected tabs
  3. (menu item) Open in New Tab Container
  4. (menu item) > New Group

@eleczilla Tab groups are available in Firefox Developer (v132) and Nightly (v133). Not yet in Stable (v131). You have to enable browser.tabs.groups.enabled in about:config. It's still very experimental and needs a lot of work, but it's getting there. As far as I can tell you can't (re)name or drag & drop groups. Unfortunately still unusable in vertical mode; groups are available, but collapsing a group only hides the tabs but does not size down.

@DanakinNot sure if this came with the most recent Nightly update, but renaming is possible by right-clicking on the tab group (with horizontal tabs at least).

@VeganFoxIt is indeed in the recent nightly update. Renaming tab groups also works with vertical tabs.

Is this really going to happen after all these years????? What do I see? I can't believe my eyes, God.
Thank you very much. I've been waiting for this for a long time.. Please release the release version as soon as possible.

Really great idea. I have tried some different browsers. It would be awesome if Firefox got inspired by how Vivaldi do tabs with sub-tabs. It works so well, especially on Android.

The second this is available I'm done with Chrome. Literally the only thing holding me back. I had tried to swap before but I'm a creature of habit and didn't want to change my w/fs. Glad to see this is coming soon!

It would be nice if they would make an alternative group mode when all tab groups are fixed to the left/right/up and always some group would be active and we would see only tabs of this group. I've used many browsers, but I've only seen this feature in one of them
Simply put, the same thing that drive4ik's “simple tab groups” extension does, but with the ability to easily switch.
Also the need to double click to open a group is annoying, one click is more than enough. Also hitboxes of tab groups should be stretched (Make it the same as with regular tabs). It is unpleasant to accidentally double click between two groups and minimize the browser

There is this feature implementation from another browser

@Sh1tEaterfor me it's only a single click to open and close a tab group

@Sh1tEaterit's also double click for me, hope they fix that to single click.

Also, if I may make a suggestion to the devs... (probably already in the works)
- Make the box that shows name and color of the group not drag the browser window, because that sucks, and it is also impossible to adjust group placement/order like in Chrome, you should add that too.

Thank you for listening to your users.

Please bring this feature to the release version as soon as possible, tab groups are incredibly useful

@JonThanks so much to the team for prioritizing tab groups (and vertical tabs). I have a couple of suggestions/requests:

1. I think it would make sense to merge the multi-account containers addon into the native tab groups as they really should be acting as one. It doesn't mean you have to use it, but if you want to have clear separation between groups, you can enable containers and then place your tab groups into those containers. They really are like husband and wife.

2. I've been tracking the tab groups in nightly and testing. I know it's early in development but I think before putting this into production, I'd really like to see the ability for the inactive tab group to be hidden as a setting. So that you can bounce between tab groups with a keyboard shorcut. I'm kind of doing this right now with the Simple Tab Groups extension and vertical tabs. This helps reduce the clutter in the active view. Right now it looks like this, which clutters the screen.

3. The color coding with the lines on the tabs makes things look too busy. I think there should only be a subtle highlight color at the side (vertical tabs) or at the top (horizontal tabs). Like the image below:

Really looking forward to this but having some of the base functionality as suggested above would make for a more polished initial release. There have of course been some other great suggestions by community members, but these are the ones that would appeal most to my workflow. Thanks so much!
