I'm personally a heavy tab user but have always wondered why there is almost no support for tab grouping or customization in the native tab bar in Firefox.

I think making it able to group like Google Chrome does for example or at least giving more access for extensions and add-ons would significantly improve the UI in that regard.

After getting used to a tab grouper directly in the top bar, it is difficult to live without it. All the extensions I tried somehow become tabs graveyard because they aren't as readily accessible and collapsible.

Reducing context switch and being able to have some things you use constantly (sometimes once a day/week) always open in a little corner does increase your productivity. It is not like bookmarks which are pages that you use standalone. Like if you have a finances group, when you have a couple minutes you can quickly check the stock market, your network, some news, all in that group of tabs without having to remember the names of the websites or looking in a old fashioned list of bookmarks. Then some minutes later you have that all collapsed and you're back at whatever you were working.

Please expand the webextension tabs api ... with function to replace a group of tabs with a placeholder tab and let the backbackgrounds be colorable. Everything else will be done by addon developers 🙂

The lack of native tab grouping in Firefox is what holds me off from making it my main browser at work.
It is my main browser for personal user, but if this come to life bye bye Edge.

Even after switching to Firefox months ago, I still find myself trying to group tabs like I did on Chrome or Vivaldi. This is an essential feature for me and would eliminate any motivation for me to switch browsers again.

At this point just feels like a PR stunt  to have this ideas section. How one can expect to compete without having native feature parity. Grouping tabs feels like a no brainer in 2022.

Every modern browser has Tab Groups nowadays. It's so frustrating that Firefox doesn't. I have switched to other browsers just for that, and eventually come back here bc my heart is with Firefox.. but It is soooooooooooo frustrating.

I'm using the Simple Tab Groups extension, it saves the day, but it is far from what a native tab groups experience would feel like.

Please Mozilla! Why are you not taking this into consideration?????????

Recently came back to Firefox after over a decade. The last thing I was expecting was the lack of native tab grouping ability or even though an extension 😞
