Integrated translator

One of Firefox's big bets should be an integrated translator like its competitor Edge has. Edge has the option to right-click and translate the entire page or parts of a text. All this directly, without opening pages or needing any extension.

Possibly THE most important feature. How could it not be? A lot of webpages are in languages other than English, news sources are among the top. The internet was founded on the principles of sharing information so a robust translation engine is critical to that mission.

@SNH I can't understand how Firefox doesn't have a built-in translator yet. It is very strange. This should not be difficult to implement.

@SNH & @hlourencoam we're building one now, and it's actually available to try out in Firefox Nightly - check it out and let us know what you think.

Also, if you'd like to see support for a specific language added to our translations feature, submit an idea here (or vote for others have already been requested).

Thanks!

I'll be blunt here, Edge is **bleep**,e but I still keep going back to edge because I can't speak Deutsche and I need to get all my pages translated before I can buy or login. Lately, edge has been freezing and crushing with the error code Error_Hung (something like this). I have reset my laptop and have lost some files hoping the error would stop but it didn't and I have installed Firefox and Brave but I prefer MFFox. The only thing that makes me go back to edge is that even after the addons, I still don't get the pages translated right, and even though I prefer MFFox, i think edge has a thing over edge interms of translation.

Please make the translation better than Edge. For Chrome, I don't want to install it on my PC.

I would love to, @Jon, but I can’t find a link to a iOS TestFlight version. I’m using Firefox with a translation add-on on the Mac 😉

@JonIt is on the right track. However, I think the right-click function is more practical, faster and more functional. Being able to choose to translate parts of a text, be it a word or a sentence, or the whole text, is much better. But for a test, it is on the right track.

I strongly suggest not adding this to firefox. This is a classic example of something that can be added via addon. Firefox's code base should avoid unnecessary complexity.

Built-in translation feature is missing in Mozilla Firefox browser

Hello,

Please add built-in translation feature like Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome etc. When I browse others language website I can't recognize their language but in Microsoft edge it's very much easy and helpful to understand.

Hope you will add the feature soon.

B/R,

Nazmul

@Nazmul good news, we're working on one right now...and it's already available to try out in Firefox Nightly. Try it out and let us know what you think 🙌

And if you'd like to see support for a specific language added to our translations feature, submit an idea here.

@nobodyoutside be sure to vote and show your support for adding Korean as a supported language here: Support Korean translations

@Ford_Prefect not adding this would make Firefox severely lack behind other browsers (1), and (2) it goes against the philosophy of an open web where information is accessible to all, in this case those who don’t speak a language but would like to understand the content.

A translation feature is no longer a nice to have, but a must.

Se podría agregar un traductor de texto.

A text translator could be added.
