Status: New idea

My Firefox just updated to 157 and my eyeballs were assaulted by one of the most hideous UI-designs I've seen lately, what with a ghastly gradient from left to right in the toolbar and tabs now being super-rounded pills that can only fit half as much text in them as previously.

Who even comes up with these ideas? How does any of this improve usability? Less text and more wasted space is not an improvement and an ugly gradient that doesn't look like any other application is just distracting. Sure, fine, give the users the opti...oh, wait, the option has already been there for a long time now! But now the option to not use a gradient is apparently completely gone unless you hop into about:config -- every single theme I tried is now a gradient!

Where are the days when UI-designers actually cared about improving usability instead of reducing usability in exchange for flash?

Yes, exactly! Even if you can still change it in about:config, they're going to lose a ton of users with this! And I'm one of them. The day I can't use the Proton UI anymore, I'm switching to another browser. I'm never using this UI. It’s absolutely hidious.

I don't understand how Mozilla can miss the fact that people use Firefox because the interface IS SIMPLE AND MINIMALISTIC! Not because it has shiny RGB and hidious round pills everywhere!

This is genuinely horrible!

1. Gradient is annoying and might cause headache. So it should be optional.

2. UI geometry is very specific and should be optional. Not everyone like circled UI and it won't fit in many systems.

3. Ideally theming should take geometry into account. Themes shouldn't be just color schemes.

4. Bring back system window decoration. Nobody asked it to be removed. There are now only few embedded themes made to resemble Gnome libadwaita, KDE Breeze, Windows, macOS. But that libadwaita the,e is beyond boring and looks completely out of place in Xfce, MATE, Lxqt etc.

5. Icons in menus still not delivered. But this is what people really asked.

Strollin' around

Dear Mozilla, I prefer when a software has a stable UI that does not change every year or so. I'm not saying the new Nova look is a complete disaster, I'm just against changing UI that people are used to for no obvious benefits. I want UIs to be stable ideally for decades, not change it every 2-3 years. That's why I left Windows OS, don't make me leave Firefox too.
