Unlike some other users, I'm a fan of the "Daylight" update to Firefox for Android in 2020. I think the new UI is slicker and easier than the competition, but from the beginning there was always room for improvement.

For me, my biggest concern with Daylight has always been the Add-On Compatibility, or lack-therof. I appreciate how Nightly allows me to curate my own Add-On Collection to try add-ons and use ones I like, but after a year and a half since Daylight launched I feel like expanded Add-On support shouldn't be limited to Nightly, especially since Nightly is, by nature, an unstable build.

I propose two solutions to improve Add-On support on Android.

1. Port over the current Custom Add-On Collection feature as-is to either Beta or Stable (this would include hiding it as a "secret setting" behind the Firefox Logo on the About Page).

2. Curate a larger collection of Add-Ons tested for compatibility on Android that could be given their own unique badging on the Add-Ons site, and in turn installable on any Android build of Firefox.

The former-most option would be the easiest to apply for the sake of those willing to use Nightly's fix, but the latter-most option would be more user friendly, improve user participation in the Android Browser's development (by allowing users to submit recommended extensions for Android similar to how the general Recommended badging works), and free up Nightly builds for testing Extension features that have yet to be perfected on Android.

While I don't expect a return of Firefox OS on mobile, I think it'd be good if the Firefox ecosystem could be better integrated with Android somehow. I like Android, but I'd like it even better without any ties to Google. The problem is, installing custom Android ROMs isn't always easy, or supported.

Add-ons on mobile is the only feature keeping me in the firefox ecosystem. I use nightly to add my required extensions but it really should be available in the stable release as well. The method to add new extensions is wonky on nightly as well. Wish Mozilla would really widen the extension list on Android, or just let users add the ones they want.

Having a whitelist of allowed extensions seems a very immoral and deplorable thing in the first place. Was there any valid, realistic concern to bring it to life from the beginning?

It is long past time for this to happen! The current state of things essentially renders stable releases of Firefox only slightly better than Chrome on mobile, which is so sad. I've been using Mozilla since *before* Firefox and I know we can do better than this.

Hi, I've been long time user and appreciator of Firefox. I agree with the idea the the Add-Ons are what makes Firefox so powerful (that and the emphasis on privacy). I would love to have some debug setting in the current Firefox app that allows me to install extensions that I like. I remember the about:config has a "Here Be Dragons!" warning - perhaps a similar message could be shown.

I'm happy to take responsibility for the addons that I install or contribute financially to some kind of review process.

This should happen ASAP. Mozilla does not review every extension on Firefox desktop, and so I don't see why they need to do this on Android.

Currently on desktop, you get a warning for non-recommended add ons "This add-on is not actively monitored for security by Mozilla. Make sure you trust it before installing". Mozilla could just put something similar in Android for the extensions that aren't 'recommended' by Mozilla.

Extensions are a major USP for Firefox on Android. The more extensions that are available, the more users will take note and benefit. This may also lead to an increase in the user base.

There are a lot of add-ons that actually work without issue (And have adapted UIs) on Firefox for Android, I really hope this gets adressed

I think Mozilla took donations and used it for personal use. Why there are not focused on the Firefox android. Most of the things they removed is still pending and they are the most necessary and unique to use the firefox other than chrome.

I've been waiting for this since addond were disabled a couple of years ago. Please prioritise this, it would make FF for Android so much better!
