I'd like Thunderbird for Android to get an option to display the folder name where an email is located (filed).

This at two places:

  1. Unified inbox: now you have a list of mails but you can't see in which folder the mails are located/filed.
  2. Mail view: now when viewing a mail you can't see where this mail is located/filed.

In the unified inbox only the coloring gives a hint of the corresponding account. Similar, in the mail view you see the account name (with the account color) on top of the view, but not the mail folder.

If you sort mails in folders - either manually or by filter - you end up with lots of mails distributed over some folders (for me it's lots of folders). Those mails may be unread (filtered when incoming) or already read, maybe marked as important.

It would be very helpful - for context - to see the folder names the mails are filed into.

Ideas:

  1. In unified inbox the mail's folder name could be displayed as a small label text between title and "subtitle" (by default the mail subject is the title and the sender is the "subtitle" - but it can be reverted in settings).
  2. Likewise in the mail view the folder name could be displayed in a similar design above or below the mail title.

For me this is the only aspect keeping me away from using Thunderbird for Android as a daily driver as I'm losing the context (folder names) of my filed mails. Right now I'm using Aquamail which has a better presentation on that regard. You can also color folders there to add extra visual clue, which is not what I would ask for here.

My app version by the way: Thunderbird for Android 13.0b1
