It would be great if there was a way to customize hotkeys.
Here's how I see it:
 * Have a about:hotkeys panel, with all actions listed, and already mapped shortcuts shown.
 * Whether these should be modifiable or not is up to the dev community, ideally they'd be.
 * When clicking on a hotkey field, ideally, there would be a capturing hotkey feature, or, before this, an AHK like syntax to define hotkeys (not as complex, something like: CTRL+H means this and MAJ+ALT+END means that...)

 * a restore to default button.
 * Done.

It can't be done with an extension because some function can't be accessed by extensions (I'm actually looking for a way to send tab to other device while browsing with TST.). Anyway, I believe this should boost productivity in a number of ways. You guys are devs, you know keyboards are faster than mice. 😛

edit: Corrected the typos, it's been bugging me for months now😅

Such a shame that keyboard shortcuts are impossible to override!
I switched to Firefox because of its customizability, just to find out that it can't do such a basic customization that even stupid pop browsers can! How about accessibility? No words...

It kinda baffles me why there isn't already some basic key remapping in Firefox, especially in 2023.

When people ask for help to remap, everyone redirects to using AutoConfig but it's literally programmer speech - not friendly for casual users at all!

Honestly, this is one of the reasons I actually switched to a different browser for a while. Specifically, not being able to reassign Ctrl+Shift+A to an addon/extension shortcut, since it opens Addons instead (which I don't use often and could be assigned to something less convenient, or even clicked in the dropdown menu with a mouse).

Crazy this simple feature isn't available. +1

Why is it with Firefox and any other Mozilla product for that matter lack the ability to change key binds within the application? Doesn't seem like a very difficult thing to have within a browser being able to changer and customize keybinds, and disable certain keybinds from activating certain things within the browser for that matter. If I use any other browser like the many Chromium derivatives that you can change keybinds the browser has and even disable certain ones from being activated, or set to do something else completely. Seems like a very basic universal feature, and yet it's not present in Firefox.

This is the main reason I don't use Firefox as my daily driver. Please Mozilla add this feature.

Not just customizable shortcuts, but the option for single-key shortcuts after the fashion of Opera (back in the day) and Vivaldi would be very desirable. After waiting and investigating and attempting to implement my own workarounds and such to try to get this going on and off for twenty-four years, though (literally dating back to the first tentative SeaMonkey milestone releases; IIRC I started poking around with M7 or thereabouts), I don't expect it to ever happen...

Absolutely crazy that this is not a solved feature still. Its really silly when I use Rectangle with Cmd_Shift_A for making my screen left - and firefox grabs it to show bookmarks that I cannot see.

If hotkeys are implemented, you probably will be able to get things going as you want with an ahk script...

Customizable keyboard shortcuts

Keyboard shortcut customization would really add to the usability and utility of Firefox. Allowing custom shortcuts would allow a smoother transition from another browser to Firefox and allow people to set them to their preferences.

It would also be nice to be able to have extensions define actions that could be shortcut and made customizable.

Is there an internal bug report (yes, it's a bug) for this issue, or is this thread merely serving the purpose of an echo chamber for users which will have little effect on Mozilla's internal decisions?

When this is implemented it will be the moment when power-users will be fond of FF again and ditch vivaldi, brave, arc..

Yes please, that would be a lifesaver on MeshCentral!
