It would be great if there was a way to customize hotkeys.
Here's how I see it:
 * Have a about:hotkeys panel, with all actions listed, and already mapped shortcuts shown.
 * Whether these should be modifiable or not is up to the dev community, ideally they'd be.
 * When clicking on a hotkey field, ideally, there would be a capturing hotkey feature, or, before this, an AHK like syntax to define hotkeys (not as complex, something like: CTRL+H means this and MAJ+ALT+END means that...)

 * a restore to default button.
 * Done.

It can't be done with an extension because some function can't be accessed by extensions (I'm actually looking for a way to send tab to other device while browsing with TST.). Anyway, I believe this should boost productivity in a number of ways. You guys are devs, you know keyboards are faster than mice. 😛

edit: Corrected the typos, it's been bugging me for months now😅

It's even been proved possible to implement in a Firefox derived browser: https://docs.zen-browser.app/user-manual/shortcuts

Honestly, I'm baffled how long it takes to reintroduce a feature that already was part of Firefox in the past.

In general in any application that uses keyboard shortcuts you should be able to customize them.
Why? Different keyboard layouts.
It's a huge pain dealing with key combinations that only make sense on qwerty.

I am seriously losing my mind that this hasn't been (re)implemented in the past 3 years since this issue is open. The UX of Firefox is horrible because of it. Just give the user the full control of the keyboard shortcuts, like basically all other programs do it.
The vertical sidebar is unusable for me on because the keyboard shortcut Alt+Ctrl+Z does not even work. I'd already be satisfied if it worked at least. If I press Alt+Ctrl+Z with Firefox being the focused window on Windows 11, keyboard layout "English, United States (International)", I am getting this: æ

This feature is sorely needed on Firefox. The status quo lock-in on certain hardcoded combinations falls far short of Firefox's open source approach.

Commenting so that Firefox knows users are still waiting for this to be implemented. The fact that I cannot make CTRL + V = paste without formatting is mind-mindbogglingly frustrating.

Just because of this issue (the firefox's shortcuts don't follow the pattern), I avoid using it.

Having even "regular" non-customizable hotkeys on Android would be a dream. I would even donate money if it was possible to have it "marked" for this specific feature. Please make it happen!

Another use case that I'm sorely in need of right now is when using vscode workspaces in the browser. The most important keybind in vscode (opening the command palette) is ctrl + shift + P, which conflicts with opening a new private window of all things!

Custom keybinds should be supported, but I think an amazing addition to that would be the ability to customize them per-website.

Or, I would be fine getting finer-grained customization through an extension. However extensions like this addon/shortkeys have severely limited functionality, because they can't touch any of the unchangeable defaults. You can see all of the comments on this extension's page complaining about not being able to change keybinds, and the extension's version on the mozilla page is very out of date compared to the one on the chrome store, probably because it's so non-functional in Firefox.

Honestly I think changing keybinds should be one of the top user priorities for mozilla right now, it's a basic feature that any user would expect. It's a massive drag on the quality of the whole browser tbh

Just came across this thread while looking for a way to deactivate certain shortcuts in Firefox (as they interfere with my custom hotkeys). I'm on Windows 11 and use the Keyboard Manager of Powertoys (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/powertoys/) to remap e.g. CTRL + SHIFT + E (default: "Open Network Monitor") to CTRL + SHIFT+ ' which doesn't have a function at all. In the Keyboard Manager, I also enter "firefox" so the remapping only takes effect there, so I can use CTRL + SHIFT + E in other programs, even when Firefox is the activated window.

Though this might be helpful for some of you.

This is reason I don't use Firefox very much nowadays, and use browser that respect users like Brave and Vivaldi, it should be on user how they want to use the browser.
