With version 98.0 the saving of .exe files won't ''ask me'' if i want to save the file like in previous versions.I read that the default saving attitude now is auto-saving. I have changed to ''always ask'' most of my content type like it was before, but the .exe type is missing. Please fix this on next version because a misclick - autosaving a .exe file can make things pretty bad. I have tried finding the ''Old Firefox'' folder in order to replace my old prefs.js but i guess newer versions have stopped using that folder. So please fix it.

I highly support this idea. Being able to choose to allow a file onto your system can be incredibly helpful sometimes, from preventing accidental downloads or auto-downloading suspicious files. This feature has helped numerous times, and is one of the reasons why I stayed with Firefox after switching. Please add a feature to toggle auto-downloading for every file, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hey,   I have enabled the "always ask" option yet PDF forms NEVER ask and go straight to 'downloads'. Why? I am current with version 98.0   Isn't it a great security risk for all PDF forms to auto download?  My current version of Edge browser does not download when I choose to open it in the browser. My last version of Firefox did not do that either. What's going on?

This change in v98.0 was extremely frustrating. This feature that has now been deleted is one of my major reasons for staying with Firefox. Please reinstate this feature. It's not the first I've noticed that has disappeared in recent versions. Very disappointing to see functionality going away.

Just as a note, you'll find two groups of settings under "Files and Applications" on the Settings/Preferences page.

Downloads

The first controls whether Firefox always uses one folder or shows you a file browsing dialog every time. By turning this on, you gain full control of where and whether Firefox saves a file. If you usually don't care, it is a couple of extra seconds to pop up and submit, so I know that isn't for everyone. But it should help with the EXE problem because an EXE file will never be listed in the next group of settings.

Applications

This list lets you switch between "Save File", "Always ask", and a specific assignment for opening the file. Before Firefox 98, the default behavior was "Always ask" (except for PDFs, which "Open in Firefox"), and in Firefox 98, the default behavior changed to "Safe File" (except for PDFs, again).

I'm a LinuxMint user and it seems like Firefox is doing things the Windows way!
They think that their way of seeing things is correct.
It seems that Firefox is doing things WITHOUT consulting users. If you change the classic things that make users opt for Firefox, at least leave an option to let users choose how they like to work!
I put a comment related to the new print preview where I expose how they are doing undesirable things:

I agree.  Stupid, annoying.  Also, downloads immediately fail.  I have to click on the part circle with an arrow to 'refresh' the download for it to complete.  Please fix ASAP!  Just happened since Firefox updated today, 11MAR22.

I TOTALLY agree with EiGeneral's comment, ". . . NOT to list of last downloaded files at every downloading, it is vevy unproductive and annoying.".  It also tells me (since this wonderful upgrade today, 11MAR22,) that my download of a WEB page has failed.  If I click the partial circle with an error (that is a refresh or retry, then it succeeds.)  This happens each and every time.  Major bug in this release, it appears to me.  Please fix this immediately!

Yes, please revert it. This is not a feature but a bug. I spent plenty of time to check if I`ve got corrupt configuration files unless I found out, that this bug is caused by a new release. I chose Firefox because I want to think and decide by myself instead having predefined "workflows".
