Changing column widths in Message List in Classic View

Thunderbird for Linux Mint mint-001 - 1.0
I am running Mint 22.

In the Message List in Classic View, when I change the width of a column, it also changes the widths of other columns. This is done proportionally, which must have taken some work. I understand this is to ensure the list does not extend past the right side of the window. But, when it changes the widths of the other columns, it happens in ways I don't necessarily want.

Can you provide an option wherein I can choose to change the width of columns without affecting the widths of other columns? I recognize this means that the list might extend past the right side of the window, but a slider bar at the bottom would deal with that. Being similar to Krusader in this regard would really kick ass.
