Progressive Web apps are an important feature of a browser that Firefox is the only one missing.
For some, it can be the reason to switch to another browser.
In other cases like for the Steamdeck, it's what imposed the choice to only include Chrome in the SteamOS interface.
Other problem even for avid Firefox users, since I wanted Social apps on my pc I had to get them on the Microsoft Store which is an Edge PWA that opens every link in an Edge window, making me use this... other browser.

Native Apps are almost dead, In the near future all will be a PWA soon! Even today we all use so much PWAs, BUT Firefox is killing this feature?!!  With all the respect, but ---- >What a dumb decision!
Please bring back this very important functionality!

Familiar face

Is this idea only for Desktop PWA's, I assume?

Because on mobile(Android), if the site has PWA support(a version of itself for PWA use) and option (on FF) should be available to install it "as PWA".

If such site hasn't support adding it to the homescreen should still be possible (one might need to grant permission to FF the function to add to homescreen in the phone's settings).

Strollin' around

While Chrome is investing and working on PWAs (they are testing in-app tabs), which is defo coming to other chromium browsers in the end, Firefox just bites the dust and gets left behind yet again since the removal of this amazing feature.

I love this browser I really do but the fact that if I want to use PWAs, I either need to switch browser or have to use a third party addon while the parent company just straight up refuses to listen to its User's Feedback of bringing back a tool that is so useful and is indeed the future like was said before of Native Apps, is just mind boggling to me.

I would love to see this feature as well. I was using Firefox with firebug long before Chrome existed. It was pushing web development.

PWAs are now excellent idea to replace desktop apps.

I can finally use web offline, pushing messages even with browser closed etc.

Why don't you inplement it? It's a step in the right direction.

Making moves

I agree!

Yes. You should bring it back, if it hasn't be made clear yet. Why did you ever get rid of it? I would like to use firefox because it is much faster than chrome.

Yes I totally agreed. PWA is future.

Making moves

If you have Android, try this on Nightly (the bleeding edge Firefox version).

  •  Add a site to home screen (to put a shortcut to a website on your home screen)
  • Launch the site from your home screen (should have the favicon with a small firefox icon)

The site for me launches in "app" mode. There's no browser to speak of. It also shows up in the notification area of Android with a "PWA" icon.

Looks like some progress is being made!

PWAs are the future, please bring them back.

Not applicable

I hope that 👍

PWAs are really useful, please bring back the support to Firefox.

To organize workflow this is a must. Chrome has it, why not firefox?

I created an account here just to vote for this.

I installed Edge just to have Teams in a PWA because their native app runs so poorly. It would be great to be able to do the same in FF.

Strollin' around

PWA is as simple as

1. creating a shortcut on the desktop/start with an icon

2. Removing bookmark & address bars

3. Moving UI buttons to the window panel

I dunno how hard this is to achieve for firefox...¯\_(ツ)_/¯
