Bring back PWA (progressive web apps)

Progressive Web apps are an important feature of a browser that Firefox is the only one missing.
For some, it can be the reason to switch to another browser.
In other cases like for the Steamdeck, it's what imposed the choice to only include Chrome in the SteamOS interface.
Other problem even for avid Firefox users, since I wanted Social apps on my pc I had to get them on the Microsoft Store which is an Edge PWA that opens every link in an Edge window, making me use this... other browser.

This is the second most requested feature in Connect and yet there's nothing but crickets from FF developers. For over two years. What gives?

For me I would be cool with a webpage inside a basic window without the toolbars ect and a shortcut on the desktop. Does not have to have a PWA functions, but it would be great.

Glad to see this is "making moves" but I've wholeheartedly given up on FireFox. The Floorp browser supports almost all of the top requested features on Mozilla Connect Ideas such as: Tab Grouping, customizable tab bar, pwa, native vertical tabs, extensions button, JPEG XL, customizable hotkeys, limit extensions to web sites; as well as having fixed a lot of the top bugs on Mozilla's bugzilla; and for me at least it's been even more stable than Firefox was. It even feels speedier. The only association I have with Floorp or its authors is that I daily drive Floorp on all of my computers now.

I don't know how much money the Floorp developers collect, but I know how much money Mozilla does... and it's being squandered in my opinion. Firefox just isn't a real browser anymore. Remember when Firefox got big because it introduced tabs to the web?  People aren't asking for crazy new features, they're asking for tried and tested features that are critical for a lot of people, and come standard in the competition. Floorp is now the new Firefox.

Floorp browser (based on Firefox's Gecko engine) supports PWA. Can Mozilla collaborate with them to make PWA possible on Firefox?

I moved away from firefox after nearly 2 decades of use, primarily for this reason.

As a linux user I rely on web applications for a lot software that doesn't support linux. PWAs we're a very easy way to work around this, especially for the Microsoft Office suite of apps that I need for business.

When they removed this feature, I had to look at chromium based browsers to continue to use PWAs.

Over time I slowly stopped using Firefox altogether because I just wanted a single browser on my devices, and the same browser so I could sync bookmarks and settings.

Not only this issue - but I find more often that some websites just do not support or work properly in Firefox anymore, as developers are catering to it less. The support channels will tell you its you, your plugins, your settings causing the issues - but in reality, Chromium browsers just work fine on all websites and Firefox no longer does.

It's a real shame this was removed, and even though happy to vote here for its return, I think many folks have now permanently moved away from Mozilla Firefox as a browser for everyday use.

As i've upgraded my Day-to-day setup to a much bigger screen, I can really see the benefits of a PWA-feature. Especially if you want to easily assign specific websites for something you "need" to have your eyes on.

The unofficial solution (the add-on) just don't cut it and an official feature is "in review" for so long that I don't know if Mozilla has any actual intention to solve the issue at this point.

I recently switched away from Firefox so I could use this feature.  I tried the unofficial addon but found that it didn't work very well.  Hoping to switch back to Firefox one day if this feature gets implemented.

I HAVE to use Edge or Chrome on my professional laptop to have web app on many use cases, same thing on my personnal linux laptop.

I HAVE to use Edge or Chrome on my smartphone to have web app that really work.

I don't understand why mozilla doesn't listen to their users and persist in that direction. That's really a feature that drives me out of Firefox. Web app is the way to have universal web app, and not to use play store or microsoft store.

I've just upvoted the idea. Been using this feature on Firefox for Android. Started using Brave for this feature. Has anyone found an alternative workaround? I've seen comments that the Progressive Web Apps for Firefox extension is problematic for some.

i support this feature, most popular web browsers has this function, including GNOME Web (a.k.a. epiphany), it's a necesary feature, for managing some web services more comfortably.
