Progressive Web apps are an important feature of a browser that Firefox is the only one missing.
For some, it can be the reason to switch to another browser.
In other cases like for the Steamdeck, it's what imposed the choice to only include Chrome in the SteamOS interface.
Other problem even for avid Firefox users, since I wanted Social apps on my pc I had to get them on the Microsoft Store which is an Edge PWA that opens every link in an Edge window, making me use this... other browser.

If Firefox had PWAs, definitely I'd leave MS Edge.

Seems like Mozilla really likes to lose market share.

The sad thing is I really believe we must avoid at all costs the Google monopoly, I installed Firefox on my Android device, today on my girlfriend's laptop and smartphone. She uses YouTube PWA a lot and I still have to tell her that she will have to open Firefox regularly from now on.

The point is, how are we supposed to "spread the word" when Mozilla does everything to kill herself? You are supposed to innovate not going backward

I really hope one-day PWAs will return officially

I also agree on that. Mozilla needs to make Firefox support as much things as possible (PWAs etc.) so people don't miss something from other browsers. Otherwise Firefox will die unfortunately.

I agree. It is such an important feature for me. I tend to use web apps over native where possible because of security and other considerations. And installing web apps as a native apps make the whole lot of a difference. Like: easier to navigate/switch/pin/organize using the standard OS methods instead of browser tabs, or keeping them in separate contexts like language/sound... So for now I'm using Chromium because of that. Heck It can even install not PWA websites as well.

Yes, please implement PWAs natively!

There are numerous Electron apps which also have web app versions and knowing that Electron lags behind Chromium version, Electron is a major security vulnerability. Being tied directly with the browser ensures that security updates are provided much more rapidly.

After reading the following articles, I have begun switching my apps to their respective PWAs using the PWAsForFirefox add-on and like them more because of the customization I can set in the settings such as improving the privacy, which is not something I am able to do with Electron apps normally.

While PWAsForFirefox works quite well, the setup process is quite involved and I haven't been able to make it work on my PinePhone with Mobian. I'm sure I'll get the same result when I get a Librem 5.

yeah, make no sense, like apple not supporting http3 yet, and PWA.
For me, it's developer's fault, no one should learn their garbage languages, or buy apple products, they donno what OpenSource mean, they are trying so hard to be like google, that's why you will see them always 1-2 years behind.

Why is there a "bitcoin" tag on this idea ?

This seriously needs to be a thing. Too many services are going the way of PWAs instead of native apps. Not supporting it only hurts FF users.

Well, HTML5+JS are the new Flash and Java, time to be compatible with the new world.
