Currently firefox for android only allows syncing bookmarks between devices using firefox sync. There is no option to import them from or export them to an html file. The desktop version allows this.

The problem is that not everyone wants to sync bookmarks. I just want to backup them locally when switching custom ROMs and firefox doesn't allow this. Also, this would make switching to firefox easier for people as they can import bookmarks from other browsers.

It would be great if Firefox add this on android and maybe on iOS too if it's possible there.

@FustratedMelonP thanks for the feedback - and sorry to hear about your frustration. Let me surface this to the team and see if there are any updates to share.

I agree, importing/exporting bookmarks and logins between FF desktop and FF android (for offline backup and sideloading, not sync) is a must.

BTW there is an open issue/request "Import/Export bookmarks to local fileystem" for Firefox Android, and unfortunately the only answer I've seen in 2 years is to use external tools https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1806482

Just noticed the bugzilla page above has been updated a couple of days ago with ongoing work on exporting bookmarks and passwords

If Firefox doesn't want to listen to the users, then it's time to dismantle this gaslighting campaign, and leave Firefox behind, as Firefox obviously don't want to listen to users.

Firefox makes "studies", behind users back, BUT NOW WHEN WE ARE SHOUTING, Firefox doesn't listen.

Disappointing, the once renowned champion of the internet, and forerunner of privacy.

First to steer away from the negativity I discovered that I can finally run extensions on android using Firefox nightly, ublock + old.reddit redirect work like a charm, huge plus and made me come back, now for the bad part:

  • Bookmark management could improve a lot, just copy what brave is doing, I have to click(touch?) 2 times per page I want bookmarked when in brave the bookmark icon is just next to the url bar, please do that.
  • In the new tab view the bookmarks could be a list instead of huge square blocks.
  • We should be able to choose the default bookmark directory we want to see when we click "see all" in the newtab view just so we can choose one of the desktop ones.
  • And finally and the reason why I'm writing this comment here is because I have 100+ bookmarks in brave, there, with a simple setting, the bookmarks get backed up in a local html file that can be later imported why can't Firefox do the same just so we are able to import bookmarks in html format?

Thanks.
