Currently firefox for android only allows syncing bookmarks between devices using firefox sync. There is no option to import them from or export them to an html file. The desktop version allows this.

The problem is that not everyone wants to sync bookmarks. I just want to backup them locally when switching custom ROMs and firefox doesn't allow this. Also, this would make switching to firefox easier for people as they can import bookmarks from other browsers.

It would be great if Firefox add this on android and maybe on iOS too if it's possible there.

This is what I came here to suggest! This feature is needed on the Android browser. I don't see why users have to request this feature, it should be a standard feature.

Anyone who votes for this request should consider voting for this one, too:

Exactly. I don't want my desktop bookmarks, nor to sync across devices, but I do want my bookmarks from my other browsers (Chrome; DuckDuckGo). I only ever used Chrome out of lack of options, while DuckDuckGo's lighter weight and easier to use but has some sites break and still isn't quite up with Firefox for privacy. Also, DuckDuckGo doesn't have a way to sync to the desktop even if I didn't mind that method of Firefox bookmarks, while it has probably 90%-95% of my bookmarks.

Not having this feature is indeed a major drawback for firefox android. I have been using firefox as my main browser and after realising that I cannot export my bookmarks, I am reconsidering. As Spell said, not everyone wants to sync their bookmarks, because for example they have separate bookmarks in each device and do not want to mix them.

Allow Exporting Bookmarks on Firefox for Android

I'd like to be able to export bookmarks from my mobile device and do offline backups much like it is possible in the pc version. On android, I know that at least, Kiwi Browser is able to do that.

I make this account to suggest exactly this. But seems it's already requested 2 years ago

@Jon when do you think this could be implemented in an upcoming version of Firefox for iOS?

Unless there a little hack I could do to grab all my โ€œmobile bookmarksโ€.

Common developers, this is single handed the most significant feature keeping me from recommending Firefox to anyone, as right now, no bookmarks export without internet, is an evil practice.

You might ask why, and here it is the answer:

Last year I managed to export Firefox bookmarks, by:

  • Having a rooted device.
  • Finding the browser.db file under /data/data/org.mozilla..something/xxxxxxxx.default/files/browser.db, that contained the bookmarks that I wanted to export.
  • Placed the browser.db file to a regular user accessible location.
  • Opening the browser.db in privacy browser.
  • Importing the bookmarks to Privacy Browser.
  • Exporting the bookmarks from privacy browser as an HTML file.

This year, I can't find the browser.db in the previously described location, so I'm wondering where does Firefox store the bookmarks this year?

I refuse to use an online tool like Firefox sync, for a job that is an offline task, and you not providing a feature that is so essential, and prevalent in pretty much every other browser, makes for bad practice, and  =>

It's frustrating that you as developers keep binding people to Firefox with freedom subverting solutions, rather then supporting whatever is possible, or make it possible to just do a job simply, without handing over the single most identifying and private thought of information to the cloud/AI (The Bookmarks)

I had to make an account and sign up to make a suggestion, only to end up in a forum like this, just to be ignored. At least I now have an account for sync. ๐Ÿ™ƒ

It's annoying, no feedback, no direct support, no nothing. It's a merry-go-round hell. I remember encountering an issue on Yahoo and the only support was a barren forum like this. Right now I can't access my Goog*e account on the same device, same connection, because It wants a number, If a hacker has all my account details and an unused phone number, Goog*e will happily let them in to my account with years of my subscriptions, likes, etc. And of course, I need a Goog*e account to voice my issue on a stupid forum that I'm locked out, can't email them. It feels like they don't care about solving an issue, only more data or engagement.

It's dissapointing that this is how things are, it's hard to be positive when encountering bumps like these on the road.

If Duckduckgo Browser wasn't crashing on my Android Tablet, had Firefox's extensions, and isn't powered by chromium in Desktop. I would have dumped Firefox.

Tl:dr - I need things to be straight-forward and less stupid. Also exporting bookmarks as HTML and JSON on mobile, just like in desktop Firefox.
