I have returned to Firefox as my primary browser, on all my apple devices. I have noticed that Firefox on iOS 16 allows for AirPlay and to me this is wonderful. I was wondering if this feature could be added to the MacOS version of FireFox.
I too used to think I needed this, but I'd say pretty much everything that can be achieved by implementing such a feature in Firefox on MacOS already can be achieved in Firefox by using the native MacOS Screen Mirroring feature in Extended Display mode. Right now I'm watching & listening to YouTube on Firefox on MacOS playing Shotgun Jazz Band via my Apple TV. The audio and video quality is excellent. It's a little bit more fiddly than Safari's Airplay implementation, but once I got the hang of it there was not much to it.
If there's a particular use case I'm missing I'd welcome those on this thread elaborating. After using Safari for this purpose for a long time, however, I've realised Screen Mirroring does the job in Extended Display Mode. Please note I'm not trying to discourage anyone on this thread asking, just suggesting an alternative for those who might not realise they can achieve a similar result in a slightly different way.
Using the screen mirror extended display in the MacOs is still just that, SCREEN MIRRORING!? Which means one can not simultaneously do other browsing or work on ones Mac privately & seamlessly! AirPlay built into Firefox would be a game changer; would finally allow the ability to simultaneously have said tv show, movie, YouTube etc...fully cast to the tv seperately in one tab while then still being able to fully browse, do whatever you want & need on ones Mac privately & uninterrupted! The Extended Display Screen Mirror does NOT do such, it just simply screen mirrors!!?!! Firefox adding AirPlay capability has been so very needed for so very long now! If Firefox had AirPlay capability it 100% no question would be my default browser across the board then & I know MANY people feel the same way & would fully convert as well!🤷♀️
