The new built-in VPN feature is great and I love it! In particular, offering options to choose what country to connect to is a very powerful and valuable feature. However, looking at the 5 countries it currently offers (Germany, USA, Canada, UK, France), I notice there are 3 from Europe and 2 from North America, and the rest of the world is not represented.

In practice, having a French IP vs having a German IP won't change much. However, providing countries from actually different locations (notably, East Asia and South America) would be a significant improvement for this VPN. (I'm not asking for North Korea either 😏)

For a Japanese user, for example, being connected to the US or the UK will slow everything down. A Japan option would mean a lot for them.

Also, many sites restrict access to content by country (e.g. "No reading this article from outside Japan"). It would be a major drawback for that user wanting to protect their privacy with the VPN, but unintentionally being locked out of some websites because their IP "left Japan."

Incidentally, I also think accessing geo-blocked content from foreign countries (i.e., watching a Japan-only video from the US) is one of the main uses of a VPN.

I don't know the technical details, but I heard there is a way to offer VPN IP from countries you don't have physical servers in:

I notice a lot of new countries have appeared in the VPN selection menu lately, including South American countries like Chile, and Asian ones like Japan and Singapore!

I am so happy with this change! It makes the VPN so much more useful, and Firefox such an attractive browser. Thanks to the Mozilla team.
