It would be helpful to have a built in one click button that can be used to automatically report a website that isn't compatible with Firefox to Mozilla and/or Webcompat

Ah! I just got informed of the root cause of this issue. The solution is:

The ‘Report broken site’ option is not available if the App Menu > Privacy & Security > Firefox Data Collection and Use > “Allow Firefox to send technical and interaction data to Mozilla” option is disabled.

I made the relevant setting and got the 'Report broken site' option in all three 'menu' locations. Problem solved. For a little more detail on this see the post by 'morat' here: The solution to the problem.

However, I think it would have been better if Mozilla had highlighted the necessity of this setting having to be enabled in the Release Notes for 123.0.

Apologies for any confusion caused.

Thank you for highlighting the issue, @BuddhaNature , and apologies for the confusion caused. Moving forward, we will be clearer in communications regarding features requiring technical/interaction data. We will continue evolving the feature -- as part of this, we are evaluating next-stage options where our users would have more flexibility on how much (if any) data they want to share directly in the reporting tool.

We'll follow up on these kinds of developments in this thread.

Version 123.0 release notes mention a new "Web Compatibility Reporting Tool" but no link or further info on how to get to it.  How does Mozilla expect anyone to use something they can't find?

Mozilla?  Can you supply some info about this functionality, please?

@Justinh I merged your post into this thread about the feature as there is [hopefully] more helpful information for you - and sorry about the confusion.

A couple notes to highlight from employees who have chimed in here recently (feel free to see their full posts in this thread)...

@kkim says:

"While it's not a one-click menu, you can file a report in 3 steps. Once the feature becomes available with the Firefox 123 update next week, all you need to do is access Report Broken Site from three menus:

  • Help Menu
  • Hamburger Menu (The icon with three vertically stacked lines to the far right of the address bar), or
  • Enhanced Tracking Protections Panel (The shield icon to the left of the address bar)

This will open a report panel that auto-populates the URL of the site you're currently on--although you will be able to edit the URL in case you want to hide potentially sensitive information (such as a USPS delivery tracking page). All you need to do next is select an issue category for the compatibility problem you're experiencing and select "Send." If you want to directly share more details about the problem, please do so in the optional comments field at the bottom of the report panel. Our team directly receives any information you'd like to share."

@denschub has also pointed out that "if you have disabled telemetry, the new reporter will not show up. This is by design and has to be that way, as the reporter sends its data via our Telemetry data pipeline."

Hope this helps! Please let us know if you have any other questions or feedback.

Okay, so I guess there is no "Web Compatibility Reporting Tool" in Firefox.  It is really "Report broken site".  That's confusing.  I'm looking for 'web compatibility reporting', like the release notes say.

@JustinhTo add to Jon's comment, we apologize for the confusion and the lack of clarity in the release notes. While the feature is officially called the Web Compatibility Reporting Tool," "Report broken site" is the command wording we used later to fit the Help menu. Moving forward, we'll be clearer and more consistent in naming conventions between our feature support articles and the release notes. Thank you for your feedback.
