Ability to Sort Bookmarks

Background: Bookmarks on Firefox Mobile just placed wherever, Unsorted.

Ideas/Suggestions:

- Bookmarks by default need to be sorted? At least by Name.

- Option to Sort Bookmarks/Bookmarks Folders by Name, Date, URL, Manually, or any others.

In mobile go to Settings -> About Firefox and tap the logo several times until it says that debug menu is now enabled. Go back and select Nimbus Experiments. Look for "Mobile Bookmarks Improvements xxxxxx" (may be more than one) and uncheck any active experiment. Restart Firefox and problem should be fixed... for now.

Brandoaz's suggestion worked. I unchecked the "Mobile Bookmarks Improvements Release" and it went back to the previous (correct, in my opinion) behavior. I can access my Desktop bookmarks and they're in the same order as when I use the desktop browser.

I'm not sure why the current state of bookmarks is considered an improvement. It's like going backwards 15 years. I'm not looking to bash the developers. I just want to stress that users do not want to remove basic functionality. This is out-of-character for Firefox, in my experience.

Feels like there's a weird disconnect between what the original suggestion is asking for and the suggestion made a few months later.

People are throwing around the word "random" and "organized" but meaning something completely different, too. To some people, "organization" is a matter of choosing between automatic sorting types. To others, "organization" means manually ordering.

Some people wanted things sorted automatically and asked for it, in place of the original way, which was to simply mirror the manually-set desktop ordering. So the devs gave them that, ignoring that plenty of other people wanted their desktop ordering to be left alone. And now we've got another request asking for that functionality to be returned, from different users, who weren't asked what they wanted when the experiment was started.

This could have been easily avoided by simply designing this, from the start, as a *visible option* the user can choose and not a unilateral change.

I don't know what you mean by "desktop ordering".  I just want all of the bookmarks under the Bookmarks menu to be alphabetized, at all times, plain and simple.  I'm using Firefox on Windows, not on a phone.

The ability to sort bookmarks as per the user's needs should be a core functionality of any browser with bookmarks, in my opinion. Sorting must be possible on the device on which the browser is running. Desktop and mobile browser may be used for different purpose and in different situations. So the bookmarks differ. At least that is the case for me (and many other users, I assume). Therefore, manual bookmark sorting (including sorting of folders) should be enabled in Firefox for Android. Referring to the sync option is not sufficient. Not every user wishes to sync their bookmarks.

This was released in Firefox 138—check out the latest Release Notes.

It's on Fx Stable 138? Weird, I am following Nightly only (PC & Mobile) but I never seen this Sort feature working. Fx Mobile Nightly already on v139.

I did noticed the related entries about Bookmark Improvements in Nimbus Experiments.

Edit: NVM, I miss "Enable Compose Bookmarks" in Secret Settings.

It's in the release notes with no explanation of where the setting is located.  Presumably it's named something like "Always sort bookmarks".  I see no such option anywhere.

I'm all for Firefox mobile adding bookmark sorting as the experience is genuinely useful in some cases and obviously desired. The lack of an ability to disable sorting however, and revert to the ordering set manually/synced from desktop means that I have no way to find a number of my bookmarks. I know I'm pulling an XKCD 1172 here, but this update rolling out has broke my workflow quite badly.

To explain, I have a very specific ordering of my bookmarks that I set up on desktop that enhances my development workflow as I can quickly open the tabs I need in order. These bookmarks are unnamed or have very short names as I can identify the sites by favicon and relative position alone (thus they take up little space on the bookmark bar). With the forced sorting on mobile now, the ordering of these bookmarks has become effectively random, with little to no way to determine where the bookmarks I need to open actually are (and in some cases where I have the same favicon and relied on position to determine which one it was, I genuinely don't know which bookmark to open).

I'm not asking for this to be reverted completely. I'm even for it being enabled by default. All I ask is for there to be some way to disable sorting so that I can get my manual bookmark ordering back.

I couldn't agree more with user deefdragon!

I too have a very specific ordering of my bookmarks and need my desktop and mobile bookmarks to have the same ordering.

So, if mobile bookmarks were to be automatically sorted, there need to be a non-hidden option to keep bookmark ordering unsorted and same as desktop bookmarks.
